Well, Let me be frank with you right from the onset. This is under the category of tourist attractions by state. The attraction of surat as a tourist destination is zero... So dont think of packing your bags and rushing to surat as a tourist based upon my five stars please!!1
These five stars are solely for surat as an eminently beautiful city to live in...
What do we look for in any good city?? Good roads-- Yes we have them in Surat in abundance; Cleanliness-- Its the second cleanest city of India. There are so many times that we see the Jhaduwalas cleaning the roads of every speck of dust at night.. attired neatly and many with Walkmans on too!!
The latest fad is Broadband Internet... Guys weve been using broadband internet since 6 years now.. and it was affordable then too.
Lets talk about electricity.. Ive been studyin in Pune for a while now.. and There are 3 hours of Power-cuts daily and ppl take it as if its an act of God and unavoidable.. But I havent seen a proper powercut in Surat since I was a kid of 7. Even today if theres a powercut for 2 hours or so..it makes news in the local papers.
So, here we are, living with 24 hrs electricity, unlimited clean water, piped gas in every house, great road, broadband internet... And unlimited employment opportunities for a businessman
IT professionals however should run at the mention of surat, as there is zero scope for IT there.. Its difficult to make 5000 bucks a month with IT.
For textile merchants, doctors, labourers, diamond merchants, Engineers of all sorts... Surat provides excellent earnin opportunities
Also, anybody can roam around on the roads even at night without fear.. I dont think theres so much to say about any city..
I dont know why I wrote this review...but I found Surat pretty unrepresented here and so....
Drawbacks include no airport... a pathetic railway station, no public transport.. not many places to hang out.. no barista.. no crossword.. no cafe coffee day.. etc etc. BUT THEY WILL COME I GUESS
All in all, its an eminently liveable city...
