My Suzuki GS150R - my experience of 1 year

I bought this bike almost 1 year back(15th July, 2009). I have crossed 7500 kms.

Why I bought this bike?

When I bought this bike I had 4 bikes in mind to choose from - CBZ extreme, Unicorn, FZ-S and this one. CBZ extreme mileage is a problem and I hate their service( they treat you as if they are doing a favour to you). though some might differ with me! unicorn waiting time was 4 months(AND THE DEALER SAID IT MIGHT TAKE MORE TIME since I wanted black colour). coming to FZ-S, looks good, pick up ok but mileage problems, small bike, too flashy. so I decided to go for SUZUKI GS-150R.

i did try the other 150 cc bikes(Pulsar, Apache) but I think these bikes last good for 1 year, then you have to drag them every now and then to service centre.

i got the bike in 1 day time after booking. I paid Rs. 59, 000/-( 15-7-2009, Puducherry). Till now I dont regret my decision

Good things about this bike?

as soon as you start this bike, you will realize that there is no vibration. this bike is smooth. I have driven this at Max speed of 110 km/hr. the bike has very minimal vibration and absolutely rock steady. you will realize it once you take a test ride. every morning I kick start the bike. believe me, I never had to kick twice to start it. no starting trouble till now.

Looks - headlight is good, display is good, backlight assembly is beautiful(best in class, 2nd comes CBZ, worst looks - unicorn)

Handling and comfort - sitting position is comfortable. no problems in turning in traffic. gear changing - I had some problem in changing from 2nd to 3rd gear for few days but service fellows took care of it. the best thing about this bike is -it is smooth, no vibrations

Brakes - front brake is good, I think rear brakes should have been little more powerful. overall brakes are good

Pick-up - not the best of the four bikes I had in mind. so those of you who love to BE THE FIRST TO TAKE OFF AT A TRAFFIC SIGNAL might be little disappointed.

Mileage - i get approx 50 km/lit in city and around 55 km/lit in highways

Service - excellent

Now what I dont like in this bike!

NOTHING, but there is always room for improvement even if it is the best.so here is a list of things that I thing could be improved

  1. Pick up could have been better

  2. Rear brakes could have been better

  3. This bike is the heaviest in its class(149 kg), but I dont find any problem in turning in traffic, absolutely smooth. On the other hand, I think because of its heaviness it is so steady.

  4. Fuel gauge could have been better calibrated

  5. Services could have been little less frequent(8 or 9 services in 1st year)

  6. My friend has a Suzuki Fiero. It gives a mileage of 60 km/lit. I would love to have 60 km/lit in this bike. but I am not complaining

  7. This bike is lengthier than FZ-S and CBZ( I dont know about Unicorn). so turning radius is larger

  8. Graphics need some improvement. new models have some different graphics but I think a lot can be done in this

  9. There are limited colour choice to choose from. newer models now come with dual tone(fuel tank Orange or Blue, rest black). there was no such option previously

Finally, almost 1 year over since I bought this bike. I like this bike a lot. No problems in this 1 year. I would recommend it to people who dont want to pull stunts with bike. this is a good bike for commuting short distances and also for long drives.

That’s all for now. I will add some other things as soon as they come to my mind.
