I am sorry but I must warn you this is not a review of the movie, but is an afterthought , a realization of the motive and the class of Ashutosh Gowariker.
Its no doubt important to acknowledge the courage and integrity of ashutosh gowariker. SWADES is the best patriotic movie I have seen till date n I dont think thats gonna change. A Master Piece.
I know most of the dumb indian audience who are hooked to bhatt and yash chopra and karan johar can’t consume reality. They don’t hate being patriotic, but they want heroes killing terrorists or gunning down pakistanis shouting ’’vandematarams’’. Gimme a break.
Ya terrorism and kashmir are important and so are iraq palestine and other such difficult places. But I think movies which glorify patriotism in such a way where we hate n kill others to justify our stand is pathetic. Ya it is important to guard our nation kill traitors n terrorists. but is it all? what we do need much more than that. We need to find a positive outlook on problems like poverty, illiteracy and a gross social depravity.

The way we portray our patriotism till now is like blaming others for our failures.
++ Why is being progressive and understanding and going after dreams beyond just love stories with heroines considered a taboo. why dont we get real. I think cos we are afraid of it. I find culture and respect for elders and everything that is served to us with meaningless overacting is trash. I dont denounce our values. I respect it very much, but lets stop making it a shield to hide our insecurities.
++ What we need is simple real and brilliant vision of Mohan Barghav. u need sensitivity and love.. see mohan bhargav, listen to his silence in the train, see his pain in the farmer’s house, his passion when working on the dam, his patience when he goes to villagers for educating their children, his love when he gathers the children in the song( o what a song!).
++ Its not just important to see this movie but understand its motive. to go out feel like mohan bhargav. Connect to people, be Real. Don’t be over emotional be practical be natural. Love ur work. can we all do that.
++ Everybody seems to have a part to play. Ashutosh has done his bit. Its now for us to make his effort worthwhile. Corruption is there and poverty too. Deplorable politics and over population. But are these problems a way of justifying our heartless mindless behaviour, our indifference attitude.
The way we always blame the system, why dont we for a change do something. Something without malice, without expectations, without our insecurities. Purely following our instincts of the good, being rational all the way.
I will just quote a line from a song of the movie......

If any visitor finds that I am being too pro indian its not so. I think the movie tells you about finding yourself and your ideals. Integrity and vision mean same all over.
