Swades - Must watch for every Indian

Cast: SRK, Gayatri Joshi etc.

It doesn’t take a lot of imagination to know how this story is going to end. Young Mohan Bhargava (a Project Manager with NASA), comes back to India in search of his foster mother Kaveriamma. And in the process, he comes back to a reality which he has never seen before. He realises that in a small measure he can add to the progress of the nation and goes about setting things on track, beginning with making a generator to provide electricity for Kaveriamma’s little village.

Swades is a simple story of how a bit of ingenuity can make a difference to so many lives...and the message it leaves behind is very vital. That if we have to get somewhere, we have to get together and make it happen. Swades makes no judgement about youngsters who leave the country in search of greener pastures. In fact, in one of the scenes, Mohan goes on to elucidate that the only thing we have going for us is that we have a so-called culture and tradition. But if we have to get somewhere, we have to get our act together and work together as a nation.

Truly, honestly and from the heart...this is a movie which someone should have made a long time ago. All those critics which say this is a long and boring affair be damned.

Yes, we shall not deny the fact that Swades is a tad bit too long and could have done without some of the songs. But then, all said and done, the journey of young Mohan Bhargava from materialism to reality is well crafted.

Newcomer Gayatri lends the apt support as the idealistic Geeta. Starring relatively unknown characters, the director has created characters which are true to life...Melaram, the post master, Kaveriamma, Chikoo. Maybe it will take this movie to put across what people have been trying to do for ages. Maybe this will be the movie which will bring the much needed change which will make our country what it deserves to be...the very best.
