10. Music - A.R.Rahman has knowingly or unknowingly composed his best best composition till date. All the songs are just mind blowing, with Yeh Tara and Yuhi chal being the best. And not to mention the https://lyrics......especially in Yeh Tara and Yuhi chal songs are totally out of this world. Javed saab has once again proved his mettle. A special mention about the background music....it blends itself with the movie so very nicely, and the Shehnai......just amazing.
9. Picturization - Every frame in the movie has been so beautifully framed or I should say crafted. Be it the majesticity of the USA or the serene beauty of rural India, every scene has been captured so very beautifully.
8. Screenplay - Wow, this must be one of the best screenplays in recent times. This is so very clear, yet so very simple. Every scene carves it mark in the viewers heart. To mention a few, the one where a young boy sells water for 25 paise, the scene where the poor farmer tells Mohan of his poverty, the scene where the old lady sees light in the bulb etc. will remain etched in the viewers heart for sometime.
7. Performance of co-stars - Each and every person, every single one of them has done complete justice to their roles. Be it Vinod of NASA or Mela Ram of Charanpur, every one have fitted themselves so very perfectly. The performance of the villagers is so natural that Charanpur has actually been brought alive on the screen.
6. Gayatri Joshi - Hindi cinema has just discovered its new Madhubala. This girl is just brilliant. Its just unbelievable that this girl is making her debut! Uff...what a performance. The flair and the grace through which she appears is just mindblowing. Ashutosh Gowariker had used Gracy Singh brilliantly in Lagaan, in this he has gone a step even more further. I believe that this girl is here to stay.
5. Ashutosh Gowariker - He will win any award hands down with this movie. If Lagaan was good, Swades is even better. Kudos to Ashutosh. He seriously deserves an Oscar for this film. And another pat for having taken this effort of making a good film, rather than being driven away by money making tactics.
4. Not the Run of the Mill stuff - This is certainly not the movie for the ordinary film goer who goes to the theatre to watch masala films. The movie has absolutely no masala, and that is one of the hallmarks of the movie. It is very very heartning to note that even today there are filmmakers who care about making good movies rather than just another movie.
3. Mohan Bhargava - This is definitely not a SRK movie. Veer-Zarra, MHN were SRK movies. This is certainly not. Infact I cud not even find SRK in the movie. All I cud find was Mohan Bhargava. SRK has lived and breathed like Mohan. This is without any doubt SRKs best perfomance till date.
2. The Message - More than anything else, the single factor that will touch, or atleast touched my heart, was the message the film offered. Every single Indian, be it NRIs or whoever should have to watch this movie. What unfolds in the screen is India. Lets not deny it, this is how our blessed land is - full with divisions of caste and creed, enraged by poverty and illiteracy, driven by ignorance and so on. Charanpurs is definitely not an isolated scenario. One can find such villages in every nook and corner of this country. May be, just may be, by watching this movie people may get motivated in uplifting the pathetic condition that this country is in now.
1. Swades....We the people :)
