Poor Effort Absolutely....

’’Things work in the direction where the money takes them, No money, No prospect and thats the way it remains, Yeh Jo Des Hai Tera Dur hi bhala’’

Thats the state of the country today........

The promos came up way back showing SRK travelling in all form of Transport, well the intentions of relativity with the story were almost clear with that, A man getting a picture of absolute India in front of him. The days gone by and Movie finally got released being completely lost as a money maker but given a tag of an honest film, See an honest film or a not so honest film, 40 crores is enough to spend.

There is no point giving out the plot now, but well its about an NRI coming in India searching for dai or what they call Kaveriamma, instead the real problems grip him and there goes his mind in conflicts whether to stay or not to stay.

See an honest film is any kind of film which is worth watching, Swadesh in my opinion is slow, half baked and frames approach to movie making, you will smile in a few scenes but overall it still wont make up much of entertainment. The Village is gripped with problems poverty, child labor, casteism, no infrastructure. Ashutosh Gowarikar tried to converge all the big problems into one movie, which is a good try but it will remain that way, All said and done if there are so many problems that he wanted to cater to where is the problem of Communalism?, it was shown a village with a muslim lady as a panch which is very hard to find, So the point I am making here is when you try to satisfy everyone you end up no where.

Pointless assumptions made : If FedEx can reach a village, in a country with 7 phones on 1000 people this Village had ISD trunk dialing facility, I have seen Gram Panchayats and a BDO is never slammed that way in a sabha because the job of a BDO is to record the decision made by panchayat and convey to the local government not to give then assurances about electricity. Ok director has taken it as a liberty but then he should have tried it in complete movie, thats why Swades pales. This was all about the setting of the movie.

The premise is not worth 3:40 mins, there was no protagonist winning here thats what kills the promise of the movie, remember Lagaan Chale Chalo to defeat the Britishers via a game, infact the village setting then gave more authentic look then the previous. No point of time I heard any one clapping when SRK lights the village, thats where the engrossment is lost. Frankly there is no point making long movies which are more taught for a Serial.

Music by A.R.Rahman is strictly avg. but bg score is good, If going by the characters there was no point putting Makrand Deshpande because he was useless. SRK has done a just better then his usual self, Gayatri Joshi looks good and has some potential. The supporting cast has done all ok with there roles.

Was Swades reflective of today’s times, I would say yes and no. Yes there are villages like that but they are completely more worse then what was shown, Why the lost love for Kaveriamma pops up after so many years. Villagers dont understand terms like tunnel, force, power, crank shaft that SRK uses while explaining them his project.

But all said and done it has its moments like SRK seeing a child outside a train, SRK’s work compared with a local weather predictor, SRK walking with Mineral water all the time. But moments dont make for the whole movie, which I must say is a 100% effort from AG but eventually turning out to be paling.
