Swades- Apna Des!!

Swades

we the people

Many a times the name itself brings the audience towards the theatres and I for one still very much believe that the title of the film conveys the rawness in the whole idea of making the movie.

I had seen Ashutosh Gowariker’s earlier movie titled Baazi starring Aamir Khan and Mamta Kulkarni and ofcourse that movie did not actually set the box office ringing with the story but it was still a very well made movie and ofcourse what Lagaan did not only to the whole crew of the movie but also to our nation is something which we all have come to have known.

The music for this movie is composed by none other than A. R. Rahman, a man who has changed the way music is being heard with his scintillating scores which have impressed people of all ages across the world.

One thing which we all of ARR is the fact that none of the numbers which he has composed is liked in the first instance and it is only after hearing again and again that you start to pick up the tunes and it remains with you for a long long time.

T- Series has seen to it that even the album cover is being done methodically with SRK shown in air, train, bus, scooter and ofcourse the new entrant Gayatri Joshi who was last seen with SRK in the Santro ad looks pleasing clad in Salwars.

I start with the first song:

Yeh Tara Woh Tara

Sung by none other than Udit Narayan this song again has rawness when one hears to it. The track is melodious and has the Rahman touch to it as usual and the lyrics are as usual awesome by Javed Saab. The tune gets into to you only after you hear it again and again which we are so used to while hearing to ARR composed songs.

Aahista Aahista

Sung by Udit Narayan and Sadhna Sargam this song has the Beep loops and this again is the ARR trademark and I seriously feel that ARR nowadays is getting too monotonous with it and needs a change soon. I personally do not favor this song much as it’s too slow and though the lyrics are good for this song and this song can be skipped.

Yeh Jo Desh Hai

undoubtedly the best track of the whole film and I wonder how ARR comes up with such a track in almost every film of his and personally for me I liked this track the first time I heard it and if someone who knows and watches Tamil films, this song is somewhat similar (maybe not much) to the first track of Kannathil Muttham a Mani Rathnam movie which had won the national award a couple years back.

This track is slow and very well composed and sung by ARR and it’s very soothing to the ears and Iam dead sure that this track will chartbuster soon and I think that Yeh Tara Won Tara is already becoming a hummable tune among the people. I for one would recommend this song to be heard by someone who is hearing the album for the first time.

Pal Pal Hai Bhaari

The tune of this song and even for that matter the picturisation of this song is more in the Lagaan mould and reminds me of the Radha Kaise na jale. The only difference between the two songs is the fact that in this film it is a solo song while in Lagaan it was a group dance and is sung by Madushree, while in Lagaan it was sung by none other than Asha Bhosle.

Dekho Na

I will not recommend this song as I personally did not like it much. This song is sung by Udit and Alka Yagnik. It again a slow song and soft one and the lyrics in this song are done well.

Yuhi Chalaa Chalaa

Well again a lovely track and the Alaap track that goes on side by side really adds a lot of value to the whole track and its once again a typical ARR composed track. I will also recommend this song to the one hearing the album.

Yeh Jo Desh Hai

This is an instrumental one and I think this track again is awesome and I loved the way the Shenai is being used and it fits in this song well. I recommend this track again and go on well with the original track composed by ARR.

Pal Pal Hai Bhaari

This again is an instrumental one and is done on Flute and again it’s being done with sheer brilliance which ARR is so much associated with.

Overall Rating of the Album

Well I being a die hard fan of ARR will give it a rating simply because the tracks are really good and though it takes time to come to terms of the album I personally feel that this is one of best albums of the year. I would not recommend 1-2 songs but the overall album is just awesome.

Kudos to ARR. Keep up the good work and keep experimenting at the same time too.

Wish you good luck.
