This restaurant is located inside the Hotel Swagath. the location is quite prominent at the crossing of Richie Road and Hazra Road in South Kolkata.
The ambiance of this place is not that sophisticated, it is a simple restaurant with old lay out and furniture and a bit shabby too. But, for the taste and quality of the food they deliver, you can hardly make any complain. So, if you are hungry for a healthy food, just get in to Swagath.
I have been to this place couple of times while I was taking my CCNA training course in a near by institution. This restaurant has been providing good quality South Indian food for long and quite famous for idly, Dosa etc. Though, Swagath is now serving North Indian dish too, it is still a popular place for its South Indian delicacies.
They make good quality Idly, and I also tasted their innovative Chinese Idly which tastes really good. They also make great Masla dosa and paper dosa. I find the size of the dosa quite big and enough for 2 adult people. The rasam and chutney given with the Dosa also tastes good. They also make good quality Rava Dosa.
They also offer Tea and Coffee. As I said, now this restaurant is also serving North Indian dishes, Rice, Roti, Parantha, Butter Nan are also available here. You can also have veg preparations like panner matar, panner butter masla, alu dum, dal makhani, chana masla etc. They also provide Chinese items like Vegetable Manchurian, Vegetable Hakka Noodles, Veg fried rice etc. So, you can have lots of variations in dishes.
Prices are a bit expensive for all the food items as a simple dosa will cost you around Rs. 65 and a plate of Idly( 2 pieces) costs around Rs 55. But, the quality of the food is great, so I wont mind visiting this place time and again.
So, if you are looking out for authentic South Indian food in South Kolkata, Swagath is really a good choice for you.
