A close relative has had a peculiar experience at SCMHRD-Pune.
This
candidate secured admission to the MBA course 2008-2010, and paid the
first instalment of fees which was Rs. 1.75 lakh.
Thereafter, the
student learnt of getting wait-listed at another more prestigeous
institution. After about a month, admission from the better institute was offered to the candidate.
Naturally, SCMHRD was requested for cancellation of admission and, of
course, refund of fees paid.
It is interesting to know how much will SCMHRD refund? A paltry Rs. 5, 000/- onlyof the total instalment of Rs. 1, 75, 000/-.
The admissions process to SCMHRD MBA course is initiated way way ahead
of other, sometimes more reputed, business schools. Insecure students
rush to SCMHRD, while results of admission to other colleges are in the
pipeline, and, deposit the fees.
Thereafter, some students drop out, as destiny leads them
elsewhere. But what happens to the fees? This blog is telling you just
that!
SCMHRD commences an on line e-learning programme for students
admitted to their MBA programme which they are supposed to attend, prior to reporting at the campus. This student had applied for cancellation of admission after commencement of the online programmed but before the date of reporting at the campus. Even then Rs. 5, 000/- is all what will be refunded by SCMHRD.
Interestingly, along with the application form for admission, SCMHRD
take an undertaking from all students and their parents, stating that
in case of cancellation of admission, they will be entitled to a refund
of Rs. 5, 000/- only, which incidentaly is thecaution money.
The undertaking also makes the applicants agree to the fact tht in case
of disputes, the court of jurisdiction will be Pune only.
This candidate sent a legal notice to SCMHRD over this issue. SCMHRDs
lawyers duely replied, pointed out the water tight case that they had
against the student, and claimed Rs. 5, 000/- towards charges for
replying to the notice!
Therefore, for all practical purposes, the candidate should not expect even a rupee from the Rs. 1.75 lakh paid.
Going by all means, SCMHRD Pune is an excellent business school!
Looking to the highly competitive scenario of admissions to business
schools in the country, cancellation of admissions are expected,
and, likely to increase in the coming years. Business schools should
not attempt to make a fast buck out of this process, by deliberately
setting up a mechanism and framing rules and regulations, aided by
which they can profit from theirindustry.
