A brief note on the band

When a band sells over 75 million records, they can only be defined with one word - PHENOMENON.
The Police were a trio of extremely talented musicians who dished out a string of hits in the late Seventies and early Eighties. The lineup had Stewart Copeland playing some great percussions and drums, Andy Summers on the guitars and Gordon Sumner aka Sting playing bass and singing in a voice that can be termed unique.
The Police played a blend of reggae infused rock and pop songs that were easy on the ears. Sting’s uncanny ability to write great lyrics can be seen in some of the songs on this album.

The Police saga began with the release of the 1978 record, Outlandos D’Amour which featured hits like ’’Roxanne’’, ’’So Lonely’’ and ’’Cant stand losing you’’
The follow up was a record called Regatta Da Blanc (or white reggae). The police were successful in marrying reggae with pop to create some great songs. Regatta Da Blanc had the hits ’’Message In A Bottle’’, ’’Walking on the moon’’, ’’Bring on the night’’ and one of my favourites ’’Deathwish’’
Zenyatta Mondatta was the next studio album and that featured a brilliant song called ’’Dont stand so close to me’’. It also had that hit song with a funny title ’’DA DO DO DO DA DA DA DA’’ (which I incidentally featured in a mental review I wrote on a website called reallyrics.com. Hey reallyrics dudes, I’m giving free publicity to your crazy site)
Next came Ghost In The Machine. The first three songs on this record were huge hits - ’’Invisible Sun’’, ’’Spirits in the material world’’ and ’’Every little thing she does is magic’’.
Then came... Synchronicity... the final studio album of a band that had hit legendary status in a short period between 1978 to 1983.

1:: Synchronicity - I
The album kicks off with the title track - a high energy song featuring some great use of instruments. The highlights of the song are the keyboard bits and Sterwart Copeland incredible work on the drums and percussion. Sting sings out the lyrics in his own unique way....

2:: Walking in your footsteps
The music on this one is brilliant thanks to amazing jungle style percussions by Stewart Copeland. The lyrics are pretty lame to an extent
’’Hey Mr. Dinosaur
You really couldn’t ask for more
You were God’s favorite creature
But you didn’t have a future’’
Sting compared the human race to dinosaurs on this song.
3:: Oh My God
Pretty jazzy sounding song with lyrics that sounds like a ’’why is god mean to me’’ sort of crib. Not one of my favourites on this record.
4:: Mother
This is more of a pointless rant than a song. Its good to listen to if you are angry with someone. Wonder why bands pop in a song in an otherwise brilliant album that always raises and eyebrow and that question ’’what the heck were they thinking of’’
5:: Ms. Gradenko
Heh... pretty cheeky song. Not much to comment on this but its a pretty ok listen

6:: Synchronicity - II
Part two of the title track is simply BRILLIANT. This time its Andy Summers who takes the cake with his great guitar work. Some great lyrics on suburbian angst...

7:: Every Breath You Take
The perennial anthem of love’s loss... this song is a legend all by its own. Simple sounding and sweet, this is the one song that people remember The Police for.

8:: King Of Pain
There are two incredibly beautiful songs on this record. This is the first one. Sting’s lyrics are sheer poetry that express the viles of the world. The song starts out very sparse and then builds up into a beautiful crescendo.
This song was covered by Alanis Morisette who sang it as Queen Of Pain.
I’m posting the lyrics to this in the comments section because its one of my favourites.
9:: Wrapped Around Your Finger
A slow beautiful song thats features some eerie, melancholic keyboard passages and very low key drumming by Copeland. Stings lyrics are incredible. The song is about a supressed lover who finally gains control over his older partner.

10:: Tea In The Sahara
And now... that second song. Haunting is the word that describes this song best.
A tale of two sisters, who are desert dwellers, who meet a stranger, give him their all, only to realize that he would leave them and never return.

Bonus Track:: Murder By Numbers
A pretty dark song cold blooded murder. Nice song in a jazzy vein.

It’s a habit-forming need for more and more
You can bump off every member of your family
And anybody else you find a bore’’

What I got to say

This is one album that you can buy blindfolded and not regret. There are enough songs in here to make you experience the joys of music by a legendary band - The Police.
