There has been a lot of flack written about the music of Tara Rum Pum. True, the soundtrack may not have lived up to the standards that one expected, being a Yash Raj Films product and all. Despite the heavy criticisms, I decided to give the product a hear.
The soundtrack starts off with the title track –Tara Rum Pum sung by Shaan, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Sneha Suresh and Shravan Suresh. As far as title songs go, this one disappoints big time. The song speaks about a family of four – Ta, Ra, Ma and Pa. As a number targeted at the younger audience, the song lacks that element of fun, which is required in such a song. The singers, music and lyrics are average at best.
After the unimpressive title song, comes a gem of number –Hey Shona beautifully rendered by Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan, the song instantly reminds one ofMy Dil Goes Hmm from Salaam Namaste. With romantic lyrics, soft music and impressive singing by Shaan and Sunidhi, this mushy number is a chartbuster from the get go.
Nachle Ve is an upbeat Punjabi track, sung well by Sonu Nigham, with Somya Raoh giving ample support. A fun bhangra-style number, makes for great listening.
Tara Ra Ra Rum Tararunpum – the slow version of the title track is by far the best of the lot. An inspirational song, which talks about a familys togetherness during the hard times they face. Rendered beautifully by Shreya Ghoshal, who is in terrific form. From the piano piece at the start to the subtle music throughout, accompanied with meaningful lyrics, the track is a winner all the way.
Next comeAb To Forever a typical fast-paced track about boy wooing girl. K.K. is at his energetic best, while Shreya sings her part well. It has all the capabilities of a lively dance number, all it needs now is a striking picturization, which would do wonders for this track.
The album ends with the sufi-rock compilation –Saaiyaan sung by Vishal Dadlani. This situational song would be considered mostdifferent if compared to the other tracks in the album. Well sung, well written, with great music. Its certainly not the kind of song that will top the charts, but nevertheless, a pleasant number.
Devoid of any remixes, Tara Rum Pum is not a lemon for sure. Its the kind of music that will surely grow on you after repeated hearing. And with the film coming out soon, the songs will only benefit form the great picturizations(as seen in the promos).
