Tarak Mehta ka Oolta Chasma is a rare gem in the comedy genre of Indian TV. It compares favorably with the few anmol rattans that Indian TV has managed to produce in its over 3 decades of existence. The well timed comic performance and excellent chemistry between the team of not so familiar TV artistes makes this serial a must see for even a not so great fan of the idiot box like yours truly. Watching the antics of Jetalal, his hilariously idiotic wife, no nonsense father, prankish son and the rest of the very middle class, very much functional families of Gokuldam society(as against the dysfunctional majority in all soap operas) is a treat to the laughter muscles.
Our family members are so enamoured by the dialogues of the Jetalals that we actually imitate Jetalal’s forceful "Nonshense" and his wife’s melodramatic "Hey Mataji" whenever the appropriate situation arises causing much mirth in the family.
We hope that the producers of this comedy continue to perform strongly and do not let this excellent comedy slip into mediocrity by stretching it too long. Wine tastes best when it gets rare!
