Well...theyre back. And this time, it seems to be better than Untouchables. Well... seems to be. I havent heard the full album yet but from what I have heard, Korn now seems like a mix of their old style and Slipknot. In almost each chorus, Johnathan Davis ends up screaming his head off like his Slipknot counterpart Corey Taylor. Hmm... This album comes out looking soft in bits, hard in bits and quite catchy in bits. The highlight songs from the album are the Tomb Raider soundtrack Did My Time, their new singles Right Now and Lets Do This Now and finally Yall Want A Single. This seems like a pretty weak list at the moment, especially with a CD with 14 tracks, but most of the other songs are passable.
Whats definite is that this is a definite improvement from I believe 2000s Untouchables. In that album all the songs sounded the same and the only ones that really took off were Here To Stay and Thoughtless. I must admit that I have never been a very big Korn fan and I still believe that their third album, (or was it second?) Follow The Leader was their best album and the pinnacle of their success. However, this album might spell good news for Korn and other rap metal outfits, although if current response is anything to go by, Korn might be losing their steam.
In fact, the whole rap/rock metal scene seems to be losing its fans of late to give way to pop, rap and hip hop and soft rock. There are only a select group of fans for any given band who actually go and purchase an album and this group is consistently diminishing as half-effort albums are thrown into the stores in an effort to release something. One saw it with Limp Bizkits Results May Vary (although it was more than 2 years in production) and one sees it now in TALITM. I believe LPs Meteora and MMs The Golden Age... were the last two decent metal albums.
A rock revolution is of essence here and all the blame should not be placed on Korn. As for me, I think this album is decent and perhaps repetetive hearing (if you can survive the Taylor-like screaming) might induce an interest in this work. The Korn enthusiast (or wannabe) will still go out and buy this album, in fact even Im going to get the actual CD soon. I doubt its going to make too much of an impact now, though.
