There are some good filmmakers. There are some okay filmmakers. There are some bad filmmakers. There are some pathetic filmmakers. And there are some pathetic filmmakers who think they are brilliant. When the history of Bollywood comes to be rewritten, Suneil Darshan will find a few lines for himself.
“Long, long ago, there was a gentleman called Suneil Darshan. He used to make movies. First, he made ‘Ajay’, a glorious tale with Sunny Deol in the lead. He then decided to bring out the animal instincts within Akshay Kumar in ‘Jaanwar’. Needless to say, both films were fine examples of how not to make one. He then decided to rope in superstar Amitabh Bachchan for his family drama ‘Ek Rishta – A Bond of Love’. Phew! That movie too did not fare too well, despite Darshan resorting to all available clichés and casting coups. Darshan then decided to search for that all too elusive hit, and thus launched ‘Talash’.”
The write-up on Suneil would end here, as the cinema historian would not have the heart of analyzing this helluva movie.
So, let me do the honors.
In ‘Talash’ there is an unending search happening. First, Aksahye Kumar searches for his sister and ultimately finds her in the end. The audience has no such luck. It searches for so many things. It searches for a decent storyline, it searches for competent acting, it searches for continuity between scenes, it searches for plausibility in the screenplay, it searches for good music, and when it finds none of these it searches for the ‘Exit’ door and strikes gold here. ‘Escape from Talash’ is what the audience seems to echo after rushing out from the cinema hall, vowing never to return again.
‘Talash’ is a nightmarish experience from the unending series of terrible movies from the Suneil Darshan-Akshay Kumar combination. Darshan has an either-or problem. Either he is an obstinate man who does not learn from his past howlers, or he is simply a crook who wants to con the audience. Come on, Darshan must be having a crooked mind for believing that the audience would lap up his misadventures.
I have noticed that people at MS hate Karan Johar and his ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’. But what about guys like Darshan who besides being aesthetically zero, also impoverish the film industry by a couple of crores every time they release a movie.
