One of the most anticipated films of this year, Talaash does not disappoint in terms of the plot, acting & screenplay. The promos have been kept slick (like Kahaani earlier this year) revealing very little about the subject. The movie, for most part, revolves around 2 Talaash (searches) by the police officer Shekhawat (Aamir Khan) – an Official search for details of an accident involving how he gets enmeshed deeper & deeper into what on paper looks just like an accident, the intertwining with a call girl (Kareena Kapoor) which is part work & part personal & and a personal search for meaning into his life post death of his child involving his personal life with his wife (Rani Mukherjee) & memories of his deceased kid.
The film starts with an accidental death of a famous actor (show in the promos). After some investigation / questioning, the case is near getting closed as unresolved because there does not seem any apparent reason for the accident before a chance reference by the wife of the actor to some money taken by the actor prior to his death leads Aamir to investigate the leads one by one for which he keeps getting help from Kareena from time to time. The investigation finally leads to the arrest of the friend of the actor for other murders to cover up blackmail. But the ending surprises everyone because that’s not part of the promos but I will leave that part so as not to spoil the fun – if you can’t wait till you watch the film, it involves some paranormal activities which at the end completes both his searches.
Acting has been good as can be expected from the star cast. The interactions of Aamir with the 2 ladies have been kept deliberately slow which takes away from the suspense of the film. The film has tried to explore multiple dimensions – loneliness, remorse, paranormal, crime, & hence seems to have got mixed up in all this. Film worth watching but not in the league of earlier Aamir films.
