Talvar is a must-watch…!
As Talvar, Meghna Gulzar brings one of the most controversial murder mysteries to the silver screen. And she demonstrates her acumen in dealing with a tragedy that has been perceived as multiple(and distorted) viewpoints(via police, media etc). Given its taut narration and pace, the movie holds the audience spellbound during its entire runtime. Concerning portrayal of characters, hiring an actor like Irfann Khan is a job half done and as anticipated he exactly matches expectations.
As Ashwin Kumar he represents an outstanding blend of humor and problem-solving attitude and leads the CBI team that takes the case from police. The narration is intrigue with some interesting twits interwoven. The movie remarkably underlines the critical difference in investigating efficiency of Police and CBI. The insensitivity and sheer inefficiency of police personals will make you believe that safety what lies in their hands is just an illusion. In parallel, how oneupmanship ruins the entire effort is also presented in the most realistic manner.
Further, screenplay and cinematography help gain additional brownie points. Several dialogues leave impact upon you like Irfann saying: ……strike a balance between what system wants you to do and what you feel right as an individual.
I particularly enjoyed the on-screen chemistry(albeit short) between Prakash Belawadi(Madras Cafe fame) and Irrfan. Former plays the role of CBI director whose replacement leads to screw the entire investigation into opposite direction. Slightly disappointing is Konkona Sen performance.
Towards the denouement, a fierce discourse between the two CBI teams sets the premise enabling a perfect ending. The movie has the potential to categorically change your view about this double murder.
A 4-star movie.
