I bought a necklace set from Tanishq CP showroom. Their gold prices are much higher as compared to market prices. Price of 22 carat is almost equal to 24 carat(as per daily rates reported on TV/newspapers).
Whats more shocking is the exorbitant making charges. Tanishq has very cleverly defined making charges as a percentage of Gold price. So as gold prices keep spiralling up exponentially so does their making charges. whereas labour costs of any industry does not go up more than 5-10% in a year, Tanishq has been making a killing by increasing their making charges by more than 100%.
Most of the other jewellers charge a fixed amount of making charges(e.g. INR400 per gram) so beware of fleecing tactic of so called trusted Tata brand who are trying to fleece customers by linking making charges with Gold prices and not on actual basis, which can cost upwards of one third of the cost of your jewellery.
