An adept director with a social theme (with his excellent previous movie Kazhcha making it big in Kerala commercialy also) offering Tanmathra - good but it attained not much success. Kazhcha with the other veteran Superstar Mammooty was more touching in its appeal.
Blessy’s Thanmathra left us a little disappointed, whether it is about the evolution of the plot or Mohanlal’s mediocre acting and let us even forget that model called Meera Vasudevan! The saving graces of course were the child actors and Jagathy in a role that went beyond just comedy. Father son relationship has been effectively portrayed as good as the husband-wife or better.
The rain sequence building up the climax is one of the highlights of the film. Beautifully captured, it equals to one classic moment in Cinema, reminding one of a Satyajit Ray or Ritwik Ghatak film.
Music, camera and art direction are commendable.
The take on Alzheimer’s had ruffled a few feathers in the medical crowd. How much Justice Blessy had done to the portrayal of the disease or is it about creative licence are questions which were doing the rounds in the media and controversy, as we know in India, helps a film than mars.
If you love your family, just go for it.
