Sweet films are a rarity these days but the director proves that even without a massive budget, a stellar star-cast and backed up by a convincing story, the end result can be far better than senseless commercial potboilers.
What impressed me about the director was that he stuck true to his core storyline. Throughout the movie, the boy was a sweet selfless person but one who was strong enough to stick to his principles. He endured roughening up from goons, his potential bride’s insults, the torture of further searching for the right girl, finding her at his best friend’s wedding, befriending her and losing her again to Jimmy Shergill, a contractor whose sister he had visited once. Jimmy’s role was short but potent all the same. Manu bowls over Tanu when he selflessly offers Jimmy’s hand to her because true love is when you do something that makes your beloved happy, even if that means shattering pain to yourself. He also convinces Tanu’s parents.
In the end the director could have edited out the climax melodrama of Tanu disagreeing with Jimmy and Jimmy in turn creating a ruckus to disrupt the planned wedding of Tanu and Manu. Manu stands tall despite obvious physical disadvantage and convinces Jimmy.
Overall the movie was impressive, as was the music. Yun Hi by Mohit Suri was an excellent track as are 2 others. People should watch this movie as a rare hit.
