Although this film failed to make too great an impact on the box ofiice, it’s warm & makes you take pleasure on the small things in life.
Rajveer Singh(Saif Ali Khan) or RV as he’s popularly called wants to become a big time racer.Harry(Javed Jaffery) gives him a chance to showcase his talent in a team called the ’Racing Saddles’.Even though this team is at the bottom of the lot, RV desperately agrees as he feels this is an oppurtunity that doesn’t often come his way.Soon his gutsy speed racing places ’Racing Saddles’ at the top & he’s having a ball with his life.He meets a lovely & no-nonsense Bong girl called Radhika(Rani Mukerjee) & instantly falls head-over-heels in love with her.Radhika holds her pace as she feels she’s very different from RV.He’s careless with money, irresponsible & acts like a complete idiot.But she too falls for his warm & innocent nature.Soon, they plan to get married.Radhika’s father however isn’t very keen on his daughter’s selection since he feels RV is not a good match for her.He’s worried about the fact that RV doesn’t have a college degree & how he’ll be able to raise a family if his racing career goes down the drain.Nevertheless, the couple do get married & have two beautiful kids excluding a dog.The fairtale story meets it’s disastrous fate when RV meets with a life-changing accident.He is hospitalised for months & finally gets fit enough to make a comeback.Unfortunately, he seems to be mentally depressed about his accident to date.With his poor form, he gets fired from ’Racing Saddles’.He asks Harry to join him in making his own team, but poor Harry rejects the offer since he’s also got resposibilities towrads his family.Heartbroken, RV looks for an oppurtunity to get back on track, literally.Meanwhile, Radhika has to sell the house, furniture & jewellery since RV’s buying on installments finally meets it’s fate.They move to a poor neighbourhood & the couple tell their kids that they’re actually taking part in a reality show where they have to pretend to be happy with their lack-of-comfort.The kids believe them, but things get more difficult as Radhika now has to find work.She used to be a talented piano student but she dropped out of college when she met RV.She can’t get a decent pianist job since she as no degree despite having the gift of music.Her father’s words finally begin to sink into her.Harry gets RV a cabbie’s license.Both RV & Radhika scarifice their hunger so that the children can eat the meagre amount of food they bring back home.RV is mentally wounded & wants to seize a chance to get back into his game.
The storyline is realistic & has a lot of professional racing packed into it.The songs are fun & colourful.Saif is good in playing the playful & stupid Rajveer.Rani has no problem with her acting, but her hairstyle in the movie is so weird.Rani is pretty sweet herself & she only needs cute clothes, fresh makeup & a simple hairstyle to make her look like the sassy Radhika.Instead, her hairstyle takes your attention away(not in a good manner) from her stylish clothes & attitude that’s supposed to be portraying Radhika.
The usual Yash Raj emotinal drama, but with a bit more realistic approach towards ’scarred’ sport stars & their lives.
