Disclaimer: I omitted film details as you can get that from anywhere…some good reviews are here which tells you story line as well and other details very neatly…
Hmmm, first of all I did a biggest mistake by watching this movie with brain and not heart…why…no body told me to do so…and the result is…I found is awful…
Why? Hmmm…let me try to put down some points…see if you guys agree…
1> Music by Vishal-Shekhar is pretty ordinary by YRF standards and after coming out of theater I could hardly remember any tunes…I mean its just passable stuff…but I can’t take passable music from YRF house…don’t we still listen to music from older YRF movies…would you do the same for TRPP? I won’t…
2> I see loads of people who loved racing sequences…I still don’t understand why? None of the racing sequences could get me on the edge of my seat…I mean wasn’t it just plain race…wasn’t it all went as expected…no twists at all…I’m sorry but if you look at the movies from Sports genre made in bolllywood then I would rate Jo Jita Wahi Sikandar’s cycle racing sequence(all of those) very very highly! Any objections guys? I mean look at Lagaan for nail biting climax…this is no match…no way…now more on this…First race was awful again…I mean look at Saif RV Khan…he is like taking a long drive with family…and he didn’t even know all the rules until Javed informs him that bump hitting(I don’t remember the exact word told by Javed for this) is allowed and RV is like… what? It is allowed?…sorry guys I couldn’t digest that…and yeah many people liked climax…I mean what?…I can take NY taxi drivers for racing car drivers as I myself once have been taken for a ride when I was there…but for a crew…tire changers…guys guys…please….they are professionals…they practice that to achieve smallest possible time…and do you want me to believe that bullshit(please excuse me)…aw come on…that’s what happens when you watch it with brain and not plain simple heart…
3> I remember Siddharth Anand once said that this is movie of dialogs, I could not remember any touching dialogs…yeah…Javed “Harry” Jafri gets the best of funny lines like “My brother from another mother” and “Asthalavisthala ben”…but sadly all his dialogs are not clear enough…I really really wondered why…
4> On emotional quotient if at all you compare it with *Hum Tum, *another from YRF house, I would rate it zero. Film hardly touched me…plots, sequences are so very unreal…although I found characters quite real(more on this later…)
5> Title is catchy…but what does it mean…I could hardly remember any YRF movies where I need to think why this movie got this title…any guesses?
6> Rani looks fat before marriage…yeah I know she is….but then atleast get the dressing right…why insists on short skirts…yeah I know that director wanted to show her slim especially when they are poor and skipping their lunch and dinner…I would like to tell YRF camp…please make us believe that they are poor…they just can’t resists showing lead pair drop dead gorgeous even in hardships…
7> And what is “Itna cheap iPod use karti ho…”? This was the dialogs when Saif "the cabbi" breaks Rani’s iPOD…As far as I know…iPOD is Apple product…there is nothing like’cheaper’ iPODs…yeah there are cheap MP3 players…and all MP3 payers are not called iPOD…am I right?
OK. OK. Enough cribbing! Now some good things…yeah there are few.
1> As I mentioned characters are believable … Saif as “man of today” RV, Rani as “matured” Radhika are excellent and straight from life and both of them do justice to their roles…
2> Kids are great especially champ is lovable
3> Javed “Harry” Jafri as manager is superb. He over shadows everyone in all his scenes and you keep asking for more of him…
4> Saif’s expressions and timing are superb as ever…
5> Rani enacts her role like walk in the park…
6> Cinematography is jaw dropping…great job Vinod Pradhan…
7> Animation is kool……
can’t remember any more…
Mr. Siddharth Anand/ Mr. Aditya Chopra please work hard on details. Your film might have been doing well in multiplexes and overseas(I know you are worried about dollars and pounds only) but if you think that as a success then you are wrong…If you think just by showing some foreign locals, gorgeous people and racing you can make a great film you are wrong again…it was thumbs down all the way…
