Tarkarli is a beautiful fishing village located to the south of Maharashtra . Some Travel tips :
# Nearest rail head is Kudal. We took the Jana Shatabdi express from Dadar terminus @ 5.25 a.m and reached Kudal at 12.20 pm..
# You dont have to worry to reach Tarkarli there are ample of auto rickshaws available and they are very new and comfortable. They charge you around Rs .450/- from Kudal to Tarkarli MTDC resort a distance of 45 kms , it takes approx1 hour 15 mins. Each Rickshawala has his mobile number displayed in the rickshaw , so they are available whenever you need ..just give a call..
# We had booked a Konkani AC house, quite ok but many areas need improvements. MTDC rates are expensive and they add surplus taxes too when you reach. There is no room service. Cats, dogs and crows can be spotted around the Restaurant , it serves good food though. MTDC resort isvery close to the beach..There are rickshaws available outside the main gate of MTDC.
# The local sailors approach you for a boat ride from Karli river into the deep sea, where you can get a magnificent view of the backwaters as well as the beautiful sea. We were even lucky to spot Dophins .. a great experience. Also there are beautiful hidden beaches around and a Tsunami island .They charged us 600 per person for 2 hours sailing after bargaining. No guarantee of Dolphin spotting we could see them as we ventured early morning into the waters, we were told to reach the Tarkarli jetty which is 1 km from Mtdc..(Rs. 20/) at 6.40 am. The whole package was worth .
# You can reach Sindhudurg fort from Malvan jetty which is 7 kms from MTDC (Rs.100 by auto ) . To reach Malvan Jetty you have to pass through Malvan Market, where you can shop and buy all kinds of Konkani products.
# The hassle at Malvan jetty they make you wait till 50 tickets are sold for a ferry. Only than the ferry starts!! We had to wait .. for 25 minutes for 50 people to join in. They charge Rs. 50 per person for a to and fro journey. Fort Sindhudurg is really worth visiting.. The boat waits for you to come back from..the fort within a hour .
# There is a popular restaurant called Athithi Bamboo at Malvan but its always crowded and you dont get a vehicle easily from there till Mtdc. So plan in advance.
# Tarkarli beach is clean but too sandy.. when you enjoy swimming be careful as there as small crabs on the shore. MTDC has provided taps outside each Konkani house to wash off the sand.. There are hammocks to rest outside..each house. There is no network available.. except for Vodafone. There is a phone booth outside the MTDC resort gate.
