"Its Human to want more"
– I agree and I understand, but from quite sometime I have realized we as a human have become a "wanting machine" and "the jurisdiction" in our own self especially when it comes to our own bollywood. Every thursday has the pleasure of deciding fate of "Bollywood Movies" in other countries, whereas friday owns the rights in India and last friday "Tashan" got it due diligence royally in movie theatres. Before I could even step in the movie theatre to watch this much awaited film "Tashan" I received phone calls from hundreds of my well wishers asking me to be circumspect in committing this "SIN" but "I did" and helloo – I will not say "Oops I did it again".
As I sat through seventeen reel long movie with a dead intention, I had only two worries dancing in my mind. First about the money invested and second about the fact that if it does the similar damage what "Jhoom Barabar Jhoom" did to my mind earlier. (Recollecting – I got up within forty-five minutes of JBJ leaving my seven other friends in theatre came back straight to home did not see anyone one for next two days and did not visit theatre for three months). But my worries ended at 50th minute as I found myself still sticking on to the seat and I did till the 17th reel ended.
Thousand things preoccupied my mind I wore the cap of a critic and ensured that I scrutinize the movie with the balance mindset rather than an ardent Akshay fan or as Kareena ditester. And I am glad that I did. "Tashan" was projected promoted as a movie rather then a "comedy", "action" "mystery" or anything which it is not. The promos on air stressed on "Ishtyle" "Attitude" and the movie reaffirm that it wasnt blabbering of anything which it is not and we should appreciate the fact that "Tashan Team" was definite whats there at the offer plate for audiences.
Whats Tashan all about: By now everyone is familiar about the movie plot its nothing great to go gaga about but what matters is that "it does have a plot". Jimmy (Saif) is a call center dude who falls for Pooja (Kareena) who ultimately uses him in following ways: She gets him to bhaiyaji (Anil Kapoor) who is keen to learn English for some foreign deal. Then she tell some emotional crap and gets his help in stealing good amount of money and elopes later. She also gets her name written on his hand and gain publicity (Oops this was the real life one). After all this enters the "Jaan" of the movie the only saviour Bachchan Pandey (Akshay) who ensures that you dont blink throughout his presence in the movie.
Examining Tashan: Movie follows the storyline clearly. Director seems to be aware of what he is doing. This is not a mindless comedy at all; you can call it a kind off "black comedy" which puts a smile throughout the movie if not the loud laughter.
Characters were well chosen except
Saif who was a complete misfit throughout and he looked like he is back to his old "Main khiladi tu anari" days (Saif, what are you upto baby?).
Kareena with Zero Clothing rather minus size (with her reduced weight) seemed to have bought clothes from kids shop which wasnt an option but a necessity (Bebo, why baby?) But hello –she dedicatedly served the purpose for what she was roped in. Her revealing in twos scene was surely a "paisa wasool" for masses, she suited the role and looked fantabulous and hot.
Anil is never a waste in any movie, he belongs to the category of actors who will never loose their respect based on roles they do. His hinglish was impressive and the particular "Deewar" scene enacted by him worth an applause.
Our Akshay is a STAR in true sense; its high time we as an audience give him his due place. Lately Akshay has been impressing me a lot with his versatality. He was the last one to enter the plot but once he did I completely forgot if anyone else existed. He shines through and through in the movie , in the role of Bachchan Pandey a gunda from Kanpur. His entry scene was carefully thought out and hilarious ;His lingo, body language and the demeanor are most befitting for the role and it wouldnt be wrong to say that he is the saving grace of the movie. This seems be his forte since recent times;to carry a movie alone on his shoulders.
Cinematography is good. And the scene with the car sunk in the water is most mentionable.
Actions Sequences hold the maximum importance in the movie and are decently ok, except for a few unimaginable ones, like that of Akshay fighting alone with the policemen or that of Saif being burnt by fire and yet coming out unscathed.
Choreography and Songs are enjoyable.
For most of them are hummable and which struck me the most was Falak Tak, beautifully executed with lovely https://lyrics.
Dance Maare is noticeable too because of its aptness to the situation, appropriate lyrics and choreography
Dil Haara is amazing just because of one reason Sukhwinder Singh , for the way his voice brings out the depth of the song.
Tashan mein catches up on the tongue by the time movie gets over.
The Final Verdict: We can see the mixed responses everywhere about the movie including "mouthshut" the stars are varying from one to five. But as an audience are we doing a balanced act? I disagree. Lets not be over critical about this movie just because it belongs to a big banner like "Yash Raj". I agree that when you are as big as Yash Raj banner the expectation level raises and tolerance level goes down. But my point here stand valid that watch a movie with the open mindset rather then preoccupied notion of who it belongs too. Talk about the difference between what was projected and what it actually is. But we end up evaluating the movie on what we assumed it would be and it wasnt. Tell me if we are told that Tashan is a mix of light comedy with a script and its more about the "Istyle" and "live with attitude", we would still rate it as bad movie?. Everyone is free to give their opinion but I would say its not an outstanding movie but we can never term it as bad either. With some storyline and movie weaved around it with actors who dont look unreal with excellent locales, entertaining songs and dance sequences decent action and a climax, I would rate this one an average one time watch 3 star movie. Look around and see the bad release of this year and you will realize what I said is right. And when you realize "What Tashan is all about?" you will be in a better critic. When we have been given the right to judge , lets do the judgment right.
