I work in Bangalore and have a BSNL landline. At this point of time, Broadband services of BSNL (DATAONE) was not launched as yet. So, to facilitate an easy and fast connection to the net, I thought of taking up the Tata Indicom connection @ Bangalore.
I went to their shop in Bangalore and placed a request for the phone. This is supposed to be a 115K Internet connection and the CDMA types. I went through the application process and in a day, the Tata representative was at my door with the verification formalities. I did not understand why they needed to know if I lived in a rented/own house, credit cards owned, 2/4 wheelers owned by me for a measly phone commection. Anyway, I went through the process, awaiting for the promised 115K Wireless Internet Connection.
In 2 days flat, the phone was installed by the Indicom technical guys and immediately I set about connecting it to my computer. Tata had provided a software and installed in a jiffy.
With all the hopes of a fast connection, I launched my IE and connected to the Indicom network. I could download my emails, basic stuff without any difficulty.
Then started the problem, when I tried to open 3 windows and started browsing. The first site responded, the second took some time and the third just failed!!!
Thought this could be a problem due to weekend traffic and ignored it. Monday: Night 11 pm I again connected to the net, with no issues on the mail front. Now, the problem with the Internet continued!!! 2 IE windows opened, and none responded!!! Next day, I called the Indicom call center. Answer: to retry!!!
An absolute waste of time and money, furstrated, I retrunde back the phone.
Bottomline: The phone is good for people who are just looking for a basic phone line, for voice calls alone, not for Internet users!!!
