This review is not regarding working in TCS, but regarding the interview process I found there. I got a call from a consultancy and they informed me that an interview is scheduled @10 a.m. I generally avoid walk-in interviews because it is really frustrating(they wont consider you as humans/resources, but just as a pack of beggars waiting for some charity). I agreed to attend the interview because I have been informed that this is going to be scheduled interview. I reached TCS office by 9:30, and they asked me to register my name in a list. I see a lot of people came for interview too. Later some candidate came there told me that it is a walk-in venue. In my technology there were 3 people registered before me and I thought may be it will not take much time and decided to wait for the interview because I already put some effort to reach this venue.
I waited patiently expecting my call. Time passed by, it became 10:30, 11:30 and 12:30 and still there is no updates or no sign of calling the interview. When I inquired, two persons who registered before me is still waiting for the call. I see that lot of people waiting there came from premium product companies(yes, they are here because they heard onsite chances are more in TCS) and called informing that this is scheduled interview. There was no lunch arrangements were made and it started getting really tough for me. I was not that frustrated with my current company and even I was not desperate to find a new job. I lose my patience and decided to ask what is happening.
I went and met a person who was collecting resumes from candidates. With maximum politeness(Yes, I do not wanted to offend mymay be future employer) I asked him:-
"My interview was scheduled at 10 a.m., now it is 1 p.m. Can you please tell me when my interview will happen?" The reply was shocking "If you are getting late, you can leave" . I already spend some hours there and now he is telling that I can leave.
I called my consultant and told him that I am leaving the venue. I had to get some signature in the visitors pass and when I approached him he was lecturing one other guy who asked why it is getting late "I have 7 years of IT experience. I am a project manager too. In the interview day itself if you are not patient, it means that you are not interested in working here. I need committed people in my project." As if it is his uncles company. One thing became clear to me. What they want is not human resources, what they want is coding machines who are not supposed to question anything or who should not feel hunger. He wanted some slaves in his project with no hunger, ego or feelings. If he is going to be my boss, sure I will not complete one month in TCS. I told him that this is not what I expected from TCS. He retorted back saying "This is my employee ID and you can complain if you want to the higher management and I will speak to your consultant". This time I got really pissed off. He got a license to do whatever he want. There is nobody to ask. And he sounded like a bureaucrat in government office . Now I got a clear direction in my mind that there is no need to worry about not attending the interview. This is not the work environment which I am fit in. This is not a place to work for an employee who value his ego, self respect and talent.
Please go for an TCS interview(walk in type) only if you are ready to spend hours waiting for a call for your interview or you are very much frustrated with your current work/employer and desperately looking for a new job.
Before leaving the venue I told him "Change the motto of your company toExperience Uncertainty, it will suit more thanExperience Certainty ".
