I am using Tata-DOCOMO prepaid cellular service in Kolkata area since 6th Nov. 2009 with a talk-&-text type of cellphone( no GPRS). Here I want to share my experiences in Mouthshut. Incidentally, I also have a Vodafone connection & can make some comparison between these two services.
I was attracted to this new service because of 1p/sec rate. I found their website clean giving information very clearly The SIM came at Rs.49 for a lifetime connection & a liability of only Rs.100 recharge in 180 days. So far I have not discovered any hidden costs.
Signal strength & voice clarity are good though not excellent. In a few occasions during the last two months I got connected but failed to hear the voice of the responder - it cost me just a few paisa due to the 1p/sec rate, but may cost the company dear if such things continue.
Customer service is rather good - I, at least, have no complain. The promotional messages & calls are coming - but there is the’DND" option.
Transparent billing is the strong point of Tata-DOCOMO. It is low only for calls of short duration when compared to 49p/min rates of some other vendors. I am using a monthly special voucher of Rs.45 which reduces the call charge to all local phones( mobile & b-fone) to 1p/2sec & finding it easier on the purse.
Tata-DOCOMO served fairly well in the few occasions it was taken outside the local area - 1p/sec on roaming is another attraction.
On the whole I am quite satisfied with Tata-DOCOMO cellular phone service & will recommend it to all looking for a mobile phone connection in our area.
