Diesel vehicle lovers, please go ahead and read the article right away, petrol vehicle lovers may spare a few mins before leaving mid way but before you actually believe in what I write please go in for a test drive on a little open road, put the car in 2nd gear and accelerate. The rest will be not history but an experience you would agree that it happened in a Diesel vehicle that too a tata indica V2, well the difference is written loud and clear its a turbo.
I have seen most Tata Indicas and cabs all over India but recently they came up with a turbo version of their now successful V2 (I know many wouldnt agree) but the fact is that this the smallest car which has a turbo charged diesel engine and difference is not just mileage. Its a whole new experience, the car simply is fast.
The dashboard has two dials one the speedometer the other the RPM meter, leave the speedometer we really need the RPM meter and its here the fun starts. Just put the car in 2nd gear and cross the 2000RPM barrier and see how the engine picks up the speed pushing u back into the seat. Try doing the same in the 3rd gear and the refinement is clearly visible onto the 5th gear where the car becomes really really fast. I guess Tata motors couldnt have done anything better to the Indica than fit it with this new turbo charged diesel engine. The response of the engine is quick with a surge of power after crossing the 2000RPM mark. Surprisingly it doesnt make all that noise or vibration or shaking or anything that you may associate with a diesel engine. I would advice that the car deserves a test ride.
Sitting inside makes u feel that there actually is spacious (even spacious than the ford ikon) and enough leg room for both the front guys and the rear guys, and three average adults can happily sit behind without brushing each other. If you are a music lover u can have a six way stereo system and the music really comes out well, thanks to the space. The car is heavy and doesnt flutter or shake at high speed. Its very stable ( I tried it out at 100KMPH ) and the steering wheel becomes hard which means the power steering has been cut off. The maneouverability of the vehicle is excellent as compared to any other car in that small hatchback segment. Both in the city and on the highway the car can take care of pot holes effectively. You dont jump on ur seat while going over a huge potholes. Since I have tried it out in the roads of Bangalore I guess it has an advantage over the other small cars and would be at par with Santro (since both have high seats).
The interiors are well done up and except the glass holder which is inside the glove compartment on the left handside of the dashboard. The car is fitted with a powerful AC and FM radio antenna.
If you are not allergic to diesel or the concept of diesel vehicles then the indica V2 turbo is the perfect small car with a big pocket to save money in future. Who cares about maintenance when the car gives a mileage of 16 to 18 in city with the AC on.
The only disadvantage is the Tata motors Concorde showroom. Who cares about customer satisfaction when business is good from the cab walas.
