We have a Tata Indica DLS 2004 that has been having starter motor problems for a while now. The service center has not been prompt in responding to calls and they require two days to replace the motor while under warranty. Further, they refuse to give a replacement car while under warranty.
The motor was replaced about a year and a half ago and yet, the problem keeps cropping up. While it is clearly an engineering problem, it is appalling that Tata motors or Lucas refuses to neither acknowledge it nor fix it.
Another observation is that the failure rate of the starter motor is higher if the engine is hot. Upon opening the hood and cooling the engine for a while, the engine does restart most of the times but then, it is clearly comical (and very stupid) for having to open the hood every once in a while...
