Indica V2 Turbo Rules !

INDICA V2 TURBO DLG

Well, I always wanted to like Indica due to my natinalist attitude, especially after hearing all the struggle stories of Indica from its inception, through its first failure, to its current success. Only issue was its look. Particularly the Indicabs, which look horrible with their bug like shape and studgy-boring tail lights. Until, I recently got a chance to ride in a V2 DLG, and simultaneously into a Wagon R, changed my long time belief that Indo-Japanese Maruti design is always better than Indigenius Indica.

This new Indica is improved (even if shape has not changed a lot) and redesigned to suit international standards, Maruti (Wagon R) and Hyundai(Santro) will definitely envy its looks. Only thing I disliked is non-body colored ORVMs and Door Handles. Tata motors is showing its greedines by offering body colored (ORVMs and Door Handles) only in the highest model (DLX). These are kinda looking ugly in light colored models. I was clever and chose DLG smoke metal color ;) and these black components almost match the body color.

Also this smoke metal color I chose is the best, and raised few eye-brows of enviness on delivery line of the showroom.

Few are the features I liked best in my V2 Turbo DLG

  1. Power steering is smooth (somebody said in earlier review, its not as smooth as Maruti. I would say to him to keep quiet). IT IS SMOOTH. I was driving a Mitsubishi Galant in US and this power steering is as smooth as Mitsubishi. So, I believe it can’t get any smoother.

  2. Also somebody complained, interior look is not great. I would say to him, for God’s sake, please ride a WagonR or Santro and find out yourself, Indica interior is in no way inferior to its competetors. I understand, people always underestimate home grown crops.

  3. Turbo Rocks ! I dont mind waiting 2 seconds for the turbo coil to heat up before starting, as I know its gonna give me pleasure of a petrol car after Turbo charges up, for the economy of diesel. I don’t think waiting for 2seconds (yesss, only 2 seconds) will make you late in office. Try waking up early instead !

  4. Got my car fixed with a remote for central locking too. WIth features like digital odo/trip meter, wiper with wash, remote trunk/fuel tank release, child safety locks, fog lamps etc etc, I am truly feeling like driving a Japanese car in India. Toyota/Honda, beware ! even before thinking of desigining a hatchback for Indian conditions, coz Indica is gonna sweep Indian small car segment.

Things I don’t like in Indica and would like to change

  1. Tata motors, please offer everything in one color. Why this discremination of body-colored/non-body-colored mirrors, handles ?

  2. Shifts should be more firm. Some times u dont get the feel of changing them.

  3. Manual adjustment of rear view mirrors. TM, please motorize them.

  4. My reverse shift does not work all the time :(   hope to mend it in first servicing.

  5. Tata motors accessories seem expensive ( I dont know about Maruti etc). Got carpet cover for my car for a thousand bucks in the showroom, (which is sold under Tata motors accessories seal), But even better one is available in market for 600 bucks.

  6. Fix some indication(s) on the front to know the wheel position. Since the hood is not visible, its tough to guess where the wheels are heading. I almost crushed a feet. Takes time to adjust with the width. People often fix an external ariel to know the front wheel position on the left, but fixing ariel is old fashioned, and looks odd on such a small car.

Otherwise this car is great buy and takes the road on its stride giving rival car owners a face of jealousy. Well, I am talkin about face of my neighbour ;)
