A brand new feeling in a Diesel Car!

I bought this new Tata Indica Turbo DLG(Cherry Red) three months back. Initially as everybody feels my opinion about Indica cars was it was a low powered veichle. But when I test drove this new car I had to change my opinion.

Here are some of my own experience about this car.

Performance

------------------

  • The preformance is far more better than the old Tata Indica.

  • Once the turbo charger gets into action you won’t feel that u are driving a diesel car.

  • Good diesel car for city driving.

  • In High ways its just too powerful for a A to B segment car. It easily touches 140 kmph... the max it has reached is 150 kmph (though its not advisable to stress the car so much).

  • Ground clearence is certainly improved than the old Indica.

Fuel consumption

-------------------------

  • In city conditions it easily gives 15 kmpl with AC

  • On a long drive it gives 18-19 kmpl with AC.

Stearing & Handling

----------------------------

  • The hydraulic power stearing is too good for city driving.

  • One has to be careful at high speeds coz the power steering doesn’t seem to cut off at high speeds

  • Turning radius has to be improved.

Comfort

-----------

  • The height of the front two seats certainly seem to be higher than the old Indica and you can get a clear view of the road and the front end of the car while driving.

  • Its just too spacious for an economy car.

Luggage space

----------------------

  • One cannot expect a big boot space in this car. its just as small as a Wagon R.

A/C

----

  • One cannot say that the A/C is very powerful.. but its good enough and the cooling is pretty fast.

Interiors

-----------

  • Interiors have to be certainly improved though it looks much better than the old Indica.

  • Lack of beige interiors does not add aesthetic value to the interiors.

Extra fittings recommended

-------------------------------------

  • I ve put Alloy wheels provided by the company... It not only adds to the looks but also improves the mileage of the car.

To be improved

-----------------------

  • Turning Radius

  • Interiors

  • Body toughness

  • The top end version DLX turbo has an inbuilt cassette player which is outdated. No one would prefer for going for that player... when DVD and MP3 players have started dominating the car audio market. That is one of the reasons why I opted for the DLG version instead of the DLX.

  • Though improvements have been made in the gear box... its bit cranky.

  • It takes some time for the turbo to get into action. Till then we get a feeling its under powered.

  • When starting the car under cold condtions there is a rattling sound till the car covers some distance.

Will keep you posted on my experience with this worth owning car!
