Test Drove the Quadrajet. Felt that Tatas have not really improved in a decade. Evolution?
My Indica is 9 years old and issues even today remain the same.Poor plastic, failures all the time ( the test vehicles seat did not slide back), engine noise and the feel of driving a truck. No finesse. Am a little sentimental about my Indica as I have spent innumerable weekends at the workshop to fix every moving part thrice over. The parts are now the best available. Wider tyres, palio fuses, bosch electricals , horn, wipers and battery.
I need to peel off the Tata name from the rear and put mine. Assembled the car again, piece by piece, better than TATA did. The process continues. May have been cost effective if I had stretched my budget and bought a Maruti or even a Honda nine years back rather than repeatedly spending a fortune and precious time on repairs..
Hail Ratan Tata ! Just chooses to make a noise with his Nano and Jaguar, quite like the Indica does on the road. He drives a Merc and pretends to be blissfully unaware of substandard products that carry his name.
Am now waiting for the diesel I 20..
Go for anything or anyone except TATA or be prepared to spend your resources and time in a garage. Make sure it is not a Tata garage. They are a nightmare- casual , exorbitent and jam packed. Obviously, with a range of Tata products lacking in quality.
We are not paying for just the Fiat engine this car uses. Fuel efficiency is secondary. If it is not, buy a bike and be better off .
The team at Tata needs to stall production and go back to the drawing board, quality lab and test tracks and stay there till atleast a dozen users / auto experts are convinced that they have indeed ironed out flaws which have been there for a decade and can be easily resolved at a minimal cost
by just applying their minds. If a user like me can do it to a single car, am sure they too can try.
Not too difficult considering they get grants even when they lack quality. Managed to acquire 1100 acres of land in Gujarat for a song, A rental of just a crore a year for 99 years. Find a decent office space in Mumbai for that much?
