This is my first review on mouthshut blog. I have come to write my views on my Tata Indica Vista Quadrajet, Aura– Marine Blue. I was an happy customer of Indica Turbo Dlx for 4 years. Indica Turbo was much known for its economic commuting skills and not much reliability issues. I had drove the car for almost 80, 000 Kms without any much issues. I wanted to upgrade the car to a more modernized diesel car.
From the cars which were displayed in the motor show in 2008 Jan I came to know that a new Indica V3(now named Vista) would be launched very soon. I decided to buy it when it came to the market. During the launch of Indica Dicor, I was slightly inclined to buy it. But I later decided to hold on till the launch of V3.
Thus I bought Vista Quadrajet Aura model in October 2008. I was impressed with the blue color and went for it. When I went for a test drive, the VST motors offered me a test drive of a Gala Red Vista. When I went inside the cars, the first reaction from mine was ‘WOW’. I could never so roomy hatch back as Vista. May be, Fusion would have been more roomy, but it was out of my choice. Vista was even more spacious than Getz, which I used to admire for its roomy design. The interiors were also looking great. I would not admit any body commenting harsh about Vista’s plastics. I have seen many Swift’s with jammed door handles, power windows relenting to go up etc.,
The initial days of my ownership with Vista were highly rewarding, as I felt a huge step up in comfort and ride quality from my Indica Turbo. It was monsoon season in Tamil nadu during the month of Oct & Nov with the roads badly affected by rain. There used to be lot of pot holes & craters here and there on the road to my office. I never used to worry about them on my baby Vista. It used to absorb almost every undulations on the road and doesn’t pitch even at extreme conditions.
FE:
I usually get an average of 15.5 kmpl in city and 21.5 kmpl in highways. It may vary by upto 1 kmpl depending on extra load or passengers on my car.
Jan 2009:
I fitted a JVC DVD System with 12” cylindrical subwoofer. I added a Alpine 4 channel amplifier to extract the power for additional sub woofer.
I changed the wheels to alloys, simulating the anniversary Vista’s Alloy wheel design. It now gives a elegant style. I upgraded the tires to MRF ‘Go green ‘ tires ZV2SK, 195 / 55 . The ride is now still more silent.
May 2009:
I have been reading reviews of Vista & Swift’s fitted with performance tuning kit, named Dragon Performance kit. I decided to add one on my baby too.
The performance of stock Vista was not at all bad. Though it takes 16.5 seconds to do 100 Kmph from stand still, which is almost 2.5 seconds shy off the swift, I believe it is mainly due to the shorter gearing in Vista. Swift DDis does easily 120 Kmph in 3rd gear. In Vista 3rd gear does only 105 Kmph. Thus to reach 100 Kmph from rest the engine has to spin upto 5000 rpm where the power delivery is very low.
Thus to improve the performance I sought the help of a fellow mouthshut member, Mr.Arvind_k and I fitted a Dragon Tuning kit on my car.
As told in the website fitting the kit was a 2 minute job. As I started the car I could not feel any change in grunt at idle. As soon as I released the clutch in 1st gear my baby was more eager in bringing a momentum and then I pedaled the accelerator hard, my god!, there was a sudden pull creating a strong tug of force which hulled my back from the seat lunging forward that could only leave a stomach ache. I felt the acceleration like a rocket in each and every gear. In 2nd and 3rd gear the pull is very hard up to the 5300 rpm. I was eager to conduct the 0-100 Kmph timings.
Without the Dragon Kit, I did 100 kmph from stand still in 16.2 seconds. I was only relying on my speedometer which could have a marginal error. May be 5%. So I decided to keep this as bench mark, instead of relying the online test’s and car magazine’s test which says 16.5 seconds.
With the kit, I tried to do my best achievements. In the first place, I tried 0-60 Kmph and did it in 5.2 seconds. Then I went on to 100 Kmph in 11.9 sec. I tried a couple of times more and could do the same in 11.8 and 12. 1 seconds. On Average it could be sure to do it in 12 seconds. What an improvement!.
I am very happy now. I could only leave other Multijets and DDis to eat my dust with them only being amazed by my baby’s power.
My baby is now Swift on Road, not just by Name..
