Tata Indicom: Raising the Bar in Customer Torment

Update to the review below (MouthShut apparently does not allow two separate reviews of the same product from the same user):

Despite an earlier experience (a bad experience naturally - with Tata Indicom there is no other kind) I went in for a Tata Indicom broadband connection again (I don’t really trust any one ISP so I wanted a backup to my primary connection and there aren’t all that many options where I live). This was postpaid and I used to pay for a couple of months in advance to avoid the hassle of having to remember every month (Catch me doing that again). Anyways, in end November 2009 my connection just stopped working. I was paid up till the end of January or so. I will spare you the details of the innumerable calls to Tata Indicom Customer Service (an oxymoron if there ever is one) with the complaint numbers and the service reps’ names and so on - the long and short of it is that I have had no service for 11 months, there is naturally no question of Tata Indicom giving a refund or even acknowledging that their service was down (I heard from a different source that the reason was their DSLAM was made dysfunctional because of a dispute with the housing society where it had been located - apparently they illegally used a power connection without paying for it. I don’t know if this is true but it wouldn’t surprise me - nothing about Tata Indicom would really surprise me. Their call center of course doesn’t acknowledge that anything is wrong and if you insist will promise that things will be fine inside 24 hours). I’ve basically given up and written off the money. The only satisfaction I have left is that they have an open issue in their system somewher because of the modem installed which hopefully is an irritant for some Tata Indicom time server somewhere. The cost of the modem won’t be close to the money I’ve lost in paying in advance for service I didn’t receive and deposits and suchlike but this is the only kind of satisfaction a Tata Indicom victim (the word customer is completely inappropriate) can hope to get.

Want to get a Tata Indicom connection? Why don’t you just burn a few currency notes instead? I assure you, the end result is the same and you’ll save yourself some time and high blood pressure.

-------------------------------------------------------------- Older Review --------------------------------------------------------

I briefly had a Tata Indicom broadband connection; ’’briefly’’ because when I tried to renew it it proved impossible. The original connection was through the company I work for so I didn’t have to deal with Indicom customer service at that time - a pity really because if I had, I might just have decided to skip them altogether. Anyway, the connection (pre-paid) became due for renewal, I received a call from customer service asking whether I wanted to renew, I said yes, and they said it would happen inside 24 hours. A week later, nothing happened, another call same story. Repeat four times. At the end of the fourth call (this last time instead of promising 2 hours they said they were doing ’’their level best’’) I decided enough was enough. Reading the other reviews on Mouthshut only confirmed my decision not to deal with them again. Summary: If you have the slightest possibility of having to deal with Tata Indicom customer service, run as fast as you can in the opposite direction.
