Two months extra billing after closure request!

I live in Ajmera Infinity apartment @ Electronic City Bangalore. I had to take a Tata Docomo broadband connecton as there was no other providers allowed in the apartment initially. It was average on performance but not much of connection related troubles. I faced two issues 1. Average performance(less than 1MBPS most of the time for a 2Mbps connection. Second was that they don’t have much package options. After 10GB, the next is the Unlimited Data package(Rs.2750 pm!). For my requirement, I was forced to this package. So as soon as the Apartment admin gave green flag to Airtel Broadband, I switched to it.


Now starts the real trouble. Tata shows its real face once you raise an account closure request.


I called them in late Feb 2012 and asked to close the account. They refused to do so, and said I have to wait until the end of the billing cycle and get the bill and only after that clear the dues and call back. I didn’t want to waste my time so obliged sincerely. on March 9th I called them back saying I have paid up(bill of Rs.2700 for a month in which I didn’t use it for a minute). They took my request. I repeatedly asked and ensured my account is being fully and completely closed and no partial/temporary suspension being done. Also I got oral confirmation saying all amount is paid up and there is not going to be another bill in my name.


Just a month passed, and not much to my surprise, there comes another bill of Rs.1630. This time I raised concern to their grievance redressal email id. It’s been a week and I’m yet to get any reply except for an automated email that states we’ll get back with you in 48 Hours.


Later I called up the customtakeouter care and enquired. The cust care officer was outright arrogant and started talking with a tone that suggests I am raising a stupid concern and need not talk but just listen to her!


She was very proud to announce there’s nothing wrong in me being billed as they had to take abt 10 additional days of processing time and I am bound to pay for their processing time. And also that my’permanently closed and confirmed account’ was actually put only on a temporary suspension until they’processed’. They had actually given me a great discount of Rs.752 for that time! In other words, after confirming me that the request is raised and account is closed, they actually robbed me for almost anotherl month for Rs.2176. Out of the money that’s robbed from my pocket, they gave me a discount of Rs.756! I am still worried they might send another bill next month for the closed account with some other justification.


Request every bangalorean to move out of these group of cheats. Not to suggest that there’s any good boys among Indian Telecom providers. But I am deeply hurt the way things are done by Tata.
