TATA Indicom Walky prepaid woes!

I am using Tata Indicom Landline prepaid from past three years. Till Oct08 it was working ok, I mean just ok, nothing great. First issue came up regarding the walk handset. The battery of the handset was not working and most of the times the calls started dropping.

So I decided to put a complaint and fortunately to my surprise, I got a brand new LG handset in replacement. However my worries started from here. The new handset (LG make) was worse than the earlier one. It could not stand even an hour without power.

Or I should say, with full battery signal and no power connected, you could hardly make a 3 minute call. If the call goes thru, you should consider yourself lucky. Secondly, in spite of the indicator showing full tower signal, we could hardly make any calls.

Whenever called my number from other phone, the first thing you will hear is "the number is out of coverage". Only if you redial the number 3-4 times, you would get connected. When we start to dial the number, the same thing!! Seven out of ten calls you make would be dropped. Then, my next obvious step was to contact the customer care.

Connecting to the customer care thru the toll free number provided is such an irritating experience. After the wait of 2-3 minutes for the IVR, when you get connected to the actual living person, they simply disconnect the call. Please believe me. Either they were doing it deliberately or may be there is some system problem. I could say this because I can hear some background voices.

Mostly this happens when you call during the evening hours. Coming to the complaint resolution part - After wasting time by talking to customer care over the issues regarding Handset battery problem and network problem, I decided to write a mail.

I got a mail id from customer care and put a mail mentioning my telephone number. And then I got a reply from the very own Tata Indi executive saying that "your number is incorrect". Please correct the number and resend the mail.

I was surprised to know that the executive can not even identify there own Tata numbers, forget about the complaint resolution. Anyhow I kept on writing mails without getting any feedback. Lastly I somehow contacted the customer care again. And he gave me a wonderful resolution:

  1. As TATA Indi could not resolve the network issue, I have to buy a patch cord and check whether it is working fine. (If it doesn’t work, then that is not TATA’s problem!!).

  2. Regarding the handset, they gave me few addresses, where I have to take my phone personally and get it checked.

So I made a decision now. I will go to the nearest TATA indicom office, and ask my connection to be discontinued and get the deposit along with the balance money on the prepaid back. I would suggest all of you to avoid going for the TATA landline wireless connection, without checking the handset / network. Ok , just don’t go for it.
