We took Tata indicom Connection in AP. First of all, we wanted a Nokia Handset. Availability was confirmed on phone with TTSL before we visited their office only to be told otherwise...took 5 days for them to come back again to us after reconfirming. Even today, the SMS works properly only from Tata to Tata...guess they still have not activated SMS to other Cell Networks. Do you know that TATA was the first company to introduce CDMA mobile phones...as far back as Yr 2000 in Hyderabad. they have lost their advantage due to their inefficient service....you cant call up their call center after office hours and be ready to wait a lot in case you manage to get through during office hours After we reached the center..we were asked to get a Rs 50 STamp Paper to write some agreement....we were left to find where to get the stamp paper in an unknown city...of course no one from Tata Teleservices told us about this requiremnt BEFOREHAND when we conformed our visit time with TTSL. So we wpent another 2 hours trying to buy a stamp paper and then get the agreement printed...reminded me of my trysts with the government (BSNL) officials...they were surely better in comparison...no stamp papers involved at least. We applied for STD and ISD..sadly none were activated till next few weeks and it took some hectic calling and followup to get that done....even today you have to dial your PIN after every STD number you dial for the call to go through...so that if you lose your phone, the thief can see your PIN from the called numbers list in the phone and make good use of it. Billing and billing cycles / Ease of Payment are pathetic...most of the cheque collection drop boxes (they have a lot with Global Trust Bank in hyderabad) shut down after office hours as presumably they are kept next to the bank vault. :-)) . you cannot give standing instructions on your credit card (as presumably they prefer default to a 2% or so Credit Card Surcharge). Till today the SMS/Roaming facility does not work....of course you can SMS to a indicom phone (which are far and few). TTSL does not want to be the biggest...but the best is their Vision...guess best amount of customer harrassment should be the right statement there...anyway despite being the pioneers...they have been cut to size by reliance in the CDMA space and going by the speed they operate on...they will surely remain the smallest PAN India service provider. Network coverage is OK in the city..some problems in interconnecivity to non Tata NWs remain..voice quality is VERY GOOD though..better then my GSM service provider for sure. Of course the NW stops as soon as you reach the city outskirts...so coverage is rather poor despite their PAN India / Unified licensing plans.
