I have purchased Tata Photon+ in May 2009 for Rs.3500/-. So I am using this service for last 1 year 3 months now. I have only one word for the Tata Photon+ service..its ’PATHETIC’. So why I am still using it?...because I have already invested in the Photon+ device, and the device cost will be a sunk cost if I discontinue the service now.
The average speed of Photon+ is between 2 kbps to 20 kbps, against a completely false claim of 3.1 mbps!! The connection is also unstable and goes on and off during surfing. The speed increases to 30-40 kbps after 2 am at midnight, and that is the best speed they offer. I am using it for both my desktop and laptop, both are high-end new machines with original OS softwares and paid anti-virus softwares, so there is no problem with my systems. In fact the laptop works superbly in my office network.
So I do not agree with some people’s thinking that Photon+ does not work because of poor computer devices. The Photon+ service itself sucks, and you will get tons of negative feedback about the service on net. These devices are selling because of completely false and mis-leading advertisements. I am from Kolkata, and if they are providing such bad service in a metro city, then I wonder how bad they are in smaller cities! Even a 56 kbps dial-up connection is better than TATA Photon+ connection.
They also have false billing / over-billing problem. And TATA Indicom’s customer service is probably the WORST in the whole world. They do not know a single thing about customer service. I visited the main customer service center of Kolkata at Park Street and faced lot of harassment, and as a customer I felt humiliated. I tried to meet the manager at the Park Street center also, but this guy thinks he is probably the 3rd most important person in India after the President and the PM.
I wasted almost two hours of my time there without any result. Initially I thought to complain about the whole incident to TATA Indicom’s Nodal Cell, but later realized that it would be a further waste of my time as they are all the same. They don’t have the culture of good customer service in their organisation, just like their marketing counterparts who are constantly cheating customers by advertising broadband connection speeds for their pathetic service.
Hence, I decided to post my feedback in mouthshut.com, at least I will be able to save some persons from being cheated by TATA Indicom. My strong recommendation about TATA Photon+ is..’DO NOT BUY’.
