Like sunlight...in the night

Initially I wanted to warn everyone but after looking at the ratings and the reviews I can feel safe that no one who is on MS will fall in the trap. To sum it up: Terrible quality, pathetic speed and non-existent service.

I was in awe of the product for the first 6 months or so (2009). It was so simple to connect. The green blinking light on the dongle was so assuring. I got tremendous speeds in practically all the cities I traveled with it. I used to get download speeds upwards of 100 KB/s (Notice the capital B. It means Bytes, which are 8 times bits, or small b). Then the speed of the product went down a spiraling slope. I would now need to log on after 1:30 am in the night to get a speed that was above 20 Kbps (now note the small b, 20 Kbps is 2.5 KBps).

I complained but it was to no use. After wasting hours trying to reach someone on the phone, the only response they could offer was "Sir the tower in your area is facing a server problem, it needs to be upgraded". And like a teenage girl believing in fairy tales, I believed when they said "it will be done in 2 months".

I have great patience, or so I have been told. I guess that is the only reason why I stuck with Photon for the next 5 months or so. Things went from bad to desperate. The only way to garner any attention from them seemed from missing a payment. I did get a "courtesy call", but it was after they had disconnected my service and wanted the payment. I paid up and got reconnected. But the pre-dialup-era net speed continued unabated. After sending many emails (this time I was looking for a written proof), the response remained the same. One person putting it on another, and both being clueless and stopping any response whatsoever after 2 (yes, a total of 2 emails). Tried calling the nodal officer (Navi Mumbai). The nodal officer never picked up the landline no. I tried calling at 3 different times of the week (all working times and not inhuman timings). I finally gave up.

Switched to Reliance. Not really gung ho about it either, but at least I can view Youtube videos without lag and my antivirus update doesn’t choke up the bandwidth. It is expensive and I am again looking to switch. Anyone know if I can get a Wireless MTNL connection? I can’t go for landline as the local cable goons snap the optical fibre of internet service providers.
