In the month of June 2011, I got waylaid by an attractive offer stating that pay for 6 months and get netconnect usb stick for free. That too each month of unlimited offer. I paid Rs.5000 at a nearby Tata Centre and handed the device in just 10 min. Very fast in robbing people! Trouble started in installing and it was never userfriendly like Reliance netconnect.
I was promised UPTO 3.2 mbps but NEVER seen more then 25kb download speed!. I had to call the customer service and an engineer guided me to various twekings within the IP settings and then I could see speeds increasing to 90kbs. 120kb supposed to be 1 mbps. Entire 6 months I never got beyond 90kbps!
Once I wanted to make an online payment through my laptop as I was in Chennai. I called up the customer care to guide in installing the photon software for first time use. There was a message which asked me for some code and it was supposed to be "0000". I was not aware of it and when I called the customer care, I was promised to get back in 3 WORKING DAYS to give the damn code! Literally I had to shout at them as it was just a second work or suggestion.
Next day an engineer calls up an tells me a truth that Tata Photon never gives speed more then 1 mbs at any point of time! Few days back I cancelled the post paid and switched to prepaid.
What I found out was, I am already owning Reliance Netconnect and it is on prepaid. I had paid Rs.3000 for a prepaid plan, which gives me 18GB with a validity for 6 months. For browsing purpose 18 GB was more then enough for me while roaming with my laptop. Many times I had see 200kbps speed on prepaid and NOT ON POSTPAID! I am back to square one as a prepaid user and happy to browse at higher speeds on RELIANCE, not sure about TataPhoton. Always start with prepaid plan and later decide on post plan.
