Tata indicom broadband is the worst service on earth.. no not exxagerrating.. if u had the connection you will know.
read below.. try something as explained below.. then if u feel going for it, buy tata indicom.
Customer Service:
Their service reminds you often that tata indicom is a govt company only managed by tata group.
Yes, to clarify, tata indicom and the broadband service is just a marketing plan of selling existing vsnl services. the infrastructure, the bandwidth, the backend service guys are all government employees and its the same old dirty vsnl service that is now gift wrapped under the name tata indicom broadband.
tata are good managers.. so they have hired a private call-center for taking all customer complaints.. to hide the poor government employee based service backend. So, you might have a good feel when u place a complaint, but how it is resolved, and how fast depends on the pressure the call center people put on the backend service departments.. something its within 2 hrs, sometimes 2 months... the latter happens quite too often.
Their is a catch here.. tata managers may have hired a call center for taking complaints.. but it turns out that call center is full of calls, and whenever u call u will be told one of the following.
your estimated wait time is greater than 12 mins, we recommend u call later. <disconnects.>
your estimated wait time is less than 12 mins, .. and keeps playing the so called hold tone , with loud advertisements.. <suggest u to keep the phone a little away from your ear when you are listening to hold tone for mins or hours... becos all of a sudden a lady voice will shout so loud about a tata indicom offer which you dont care about>
If you are in chennai.. TRY THIS:
assume as if you are already a tata indicom broadband owner from chennai..
call 5540121
press 1 for broadband account (or whatever the menu says for that)
press 3 for existing customer (or whatever the menu says for that option)
press 1 for technical queries (and listen to wait time, and hold tone)
RESULT:
If in the above test you are able to get to a customer service executive on the first attempt .. or before 20 mins... then probably you can consider your luck with purchasing tata indicom broadband.
FACT:
The customer service call center for chennai callers... is in hyderabad.. (does it sound logical)
The hyderabad call center executives know no nuts about places in chennai.. so dont tell them you are in adyar and things like that on the call.
Also think .. how can somebody in hyderabad help me solve a problem in chennai with the connection.. hardly they can only call up and press the backend govt. employed executives in chennai.. but u know govt. employees dont pick up calls if the caller will ask them to do work :o)

ISP service:
Tata indicom broadband has the biggest market share in broadband service providers.
YOU HAVE TO GIVE IT TO TATA GROUP MANAGERS.. IF THEY COULD SELL VSNLs dirty infrastructure on services so well... they can sell even a sack of mud for 1000 rupees per month.
Their infrastructure though doesnt support so many customers.. but tata only manages and markets.. so they are still having problems convincing the whole company to improve infrastructure and importantly improve quality of service personnel.. and how sincere they are to solving customer complaints.
U can expect frequent disconnection problems.. (remember the old vsnl dial-up service)
U can expect frequent total link down problems.. (tata indicom runs its broadband wires over coconut trees in houses, and some bad rusted posts and wooden pillars.. ) during rains, and even during better winds... you can expect your connection to be down, because somewhere a coconu tree leaf fell across and the wire got cut. :O) he he.. you have to place a complaint for this with a guy in hyderabad, the call center location... and after a week your local hub service fellows will call u and ask whether u still have the problem.. try asking them the local hub number.. they will never give.. and even if they give, they will make sure they dont pick it up.
Please check airtel broadband, bsnl broadband... and others a 100 times before even considering tata indicom.. I am not writing this in frustration.. I cant tell u how important I feel it is to help people not get into the dirty problems I have faced in 1.5 yrs of using tata indicom broadband. It comes to a payment of 1000 rupees per month.. (if they say lesser.. believe me..their are big hidden costs)... + the call costs I incur waiting on the customer service line listening to loud surprise ads.
But ..
GO FOR TATA INDICOM BROADBAND.... FEEL THE INDIAN SERVICE AT YOUR THROAT
Now I understand why americans who purchase dell computers write bad about dells customer service.... dell redirects all customer service to call centers in bangalore, india.
