I purchased a TATA Photon Max in the 2nd week of June 2012 after giving away my Photon Plus connection. I paid 2k for the device. How I regret that decision. That was the day my sufferings began. I was sold on their ad gimmick of being able to save considerable time due to the enhanced speed (6.2 download, 3.1 upload). I reside at the Electronic City area and work at Whitefiled in Bangalore both which are the IT hubs of Bangalore. The speed at both these locations was absolutely dismal. Average download speed of 0.3 Mbps and upload of 0.4. I raised a request and had a engineer come to my residence who confirmed the speed was extremely low and put it in the network team queue. On following up with them I was told that there is a site loading issue and the ticket would be closed in a couple of days but received SMS mentioning the ticket closure wud take more time. As I did not get any response I followed up with the customer service several times only to be told that the speed would be restored on 1st August. Can you imagine a 8 week period to have the speed restored. Like I sucker I waited until 1st August and no response to my ticket. On repeated following I was told by one of the customer service person that the problem would be resolved in another 3 months (can you imagine) but this was not confirmed by anyone else. I have repeatedly asked them to connect me to the technical team.
I am at loss to understand that if the device has such a dismal performance in the 2 IT hubs of Bangalore then where on earth does it perform. Call centre maintains we cannot connect with the tech teams and promised me 5-6 times to arrange for a call back. I did not even once get a call. Every time I call the customer care I am put through the agony of explaining the whole situation only to get standard answers that my request has been escalated and I would get a response very soon. Frustrated I have asked to be connected to the floor managers / team leads. None ever came on the phone and I was assured that they would call me back before the end of day every time I tried. They just dont have the guts to speak to a aggrieved customer. Absolutely horrible customer care.
I cannot imagine TATA could have such third class customer care (CARE what is that). They have the audacity to repeatedly call and remind me to pay a ~ Rs. 1100 bill for a service that does not even meet 1/20 th of the speed. Again more follow-ups every month and they give me a credit and revise the bill to ~ 500 / 600 range. I told them I am not looking for charity, I need the speed that was promised that would give me More Time for everyday things. Suddenly I received a SMS on 15th Aug that the speed was restored and wished me happy surfing. I immediately dived on to my laptop to check the speed only to realize that there was no change. I was fooled again. When I called cust serv they said the ticket was still open and not resolved and not sure how I got the message of service being fixed. Man this is frustrating. There is absolutely no coordination within the teams responsible to provide support. I still dont know when the speed will be restored. I asked them to take back the device as it did not met the stated standards. They maintain there is no such possibility.
Once you buy this crappy device you are stuck with it. The device has good connectivity but crappy speeds. If you want to make your life miserable please go ahead and buy the TATA Photon MAX. I assure you that you would be frustrated to the MAX
