After having read the review of a majority of the users of Tata Indicom/Communications Wi-MAX connection Im in a dilemma...either I dont have high expectations from a broadband service provider or I was just pure lucky for my connection...well anyways here goes:
Being a technology person myself...Ive always yearned for the latest gadets & technologies for use....when even though Im a networking specialist as a professional the idea of Wi-Max being the future of wireless connectivity kept enticing me to try it once(that is before I burnt my fingers with Reliance WiMax..thatz a different review)....well I approached Tata Indicom(as it was called at that time) for the Wi-Max connection after seeing an article on a blog(remember technology person!) I asked for a representative of Tata Indicom to contact me:
24th Dec they call me.
28th Dec they come to meet me(I was busy so I couldnt give them a better date) & I sign up for a basic 256Kbps link unlimited Wi-Max.
I guess I was lucky to get an early bird offer of INR3550 for 6months(INR591 per month..cool!).
4th Jan I get a call from an installation engg who calls for my permission to come down to install the system, I ask them to come on 5th since it was a saturday..and they politely oblige.
5th Jan morning I get a call from them and I ask them to come down, for the installation.
Three guys turn up with an antenna+cable+PoE converter and their laptop.
They inform me that they represent Tata Indicom but work for a third party organisation which carries out installation for Tata Indicom.
They were very professional and immediately went to work on the connection.
When they started to connect the system I gave them a shock of their life when I informed them that I use a Apple Macbook(wicked of me!), though they were nervous but were still able to bring the system online with help from me.
During the course of the installation they informed me that the Regional manager of Wi-Max division would be visting us to take a look at the installation carried.
Only after the regional mgr. arrived that I came know that I was their 21st customer in the Bangalore area..wow!..or scary?..anyways.
Before they left the regional mgr. took a informal feedback and gave a bouquet of flowers(nice of them!)
For the next 2 weeks I got a call once every 3 days from them for the performance & connection parameters(very thoughtful)
After 4 weeks I evening I suddenly lost connection and it didnt come back for 2 hrs...I called customer support at 0100hrs which they promptly picked and registered my call.
To my amazement I got a call from them the next day that a tata indicom engg. would come to check the connection..and I came back home to look into it.
I was told that a patch upgrade was needed on the antenna which might be causing this problem...and he installed he patch and immediately the connection came online.
Since then I have never had a downtime..other then when Ive forgotten to plug the cable in(silly me!).
Oh by the way Im writing this review using my Tata Communications Wi-MAX link.
Keep It Up Guys!
