Just thought Id share this short experience of TATA INDICOM WiFi, based on Oct 08 experience at both Hyderabad and Chennai airports.
HYDERABAD - The service provided by Tata Indicom at Hyderabad (Shamshabad) airport is really excellent. All one needs to do is enable the WIFI service on their laptop/notebook, open Internet Explorer and one is connected immediately. Whats more, any page you access leads you to the Tata Indicom webpage and after entering your name/email/mobile no., you are given 45 MINS FREE INTERNET ACCESS. Really great speeds, and access to any website.
Tip: Run out of time? Register a friends mobile number and get another 45 min access free.
CHENNAI - The service provided by Tata Indicom at Chennai airport really is in total contrast to that of Hyderabad airport - while one can access the service login page (by enabling WiFi and opening Internet Explorer) there is no free / trail of the service offered. Making a call to the number displayed (044-6654-0121) is a waste of time. After 2-3 attempts one gets thru (most of the time it rings) and then the lady who answers post selecting Option 3 (WIMAX) in the IVR transfers the call to another agent, for a simple query of "Where in Chennai Airport can I purchase a coupon?" The 2nd operator who answers (I wont call them customer care agents as they only know how to transfer calls!) is no better, offering to transfer the call to a 3rd operator.
Dont waste your time. Take a chance, use your credit card.
Hopefully no one will hack into the Tata Indicom WiFi service and steal your credit card details :-) Charges Rs 50/hour.
