Indigo CS-LX TDI: Car worth its money

Just thought of sharing my experience with the car after 5 months / 10000 kms and hence this post. First some stats - kms driven-10000, highway - approx 5000, top spead reached-140kmph, services-2, Max fuel efficiency- 19-20kmpl (ac off), 18kmpl (ac ON).

As you may interpret from the post that I have driven a lot on the highway - frequently on Jaipur-Gurgaon highway and once to Lansdowne from Delhi. The car sucks in the pick-up specially if the AC is ON, but if AC is OFF the pick up looks manageble. Though the top speed is pretty good. I have driven kms after kms at 120 and car is very very stable. At 140kmph the engine starts shouting but I guess thats OK since in India you’ll hardly get roads to drive beyond that.

On the hills, car could manage easily with 4 ppl. Hardly anytime I used 2nd gear otherwise 3rd was more than sufficient. In the city condition, with jams so common its difficult to get the car in 5th gear.

Fuel economy is pretty good considering the heavy weight of the car. I have managed 20kmpl on highway with AC off and 18kmpl with AC on. Please note that this could have been more had a driven at little more rational speeds. In the city it give me 14-16kmpl in the Gurgaon traffic.

AC is efficient but car is very noisy if windows are not rolled up.

No issues with any parts except some minor glitch in the rear shock absorber that too when I drove it on extremly bad road (if I can call that a ROAD!!). Servicing at ABS motors is okay okay nothing much to mention about. idiots left the oil filter loose during one of the service which caused lot of oil seepage. Thou they refilled at no cost but that was a nuisance.

Before I end this post I would want to share VERY VERY IMPRESSIVE incident with this car, which made me go ga-ga about Tata engineering. Few weeks back, while I was waiting on one of the red lights in Delhi, I was struck by a Maruti Esteem from behind at a good speed. The jerk was so immense that it took me few seconds to get over it and come out of car. I was pretty sure that some drunkard has costed me a bomb because of him forgetting difference between accelerator and break. But when I came out, I really could not believe- the esteem had it bonnet crashed in such a way that it opened partially and deformed in a triangular shape and boy......Indigo had just a single mark on its rear bumper which is hardly noticable. I keep telling my wife, YEH TRUCK WALI COMPANY HAI, CAR ME BHI TRUCK WALI TECHNOLOGY HAI. SLOW HAI BUT JABARDAST HAI.

This is my first post in mouthshut. I purchased Indigo CS-LX TDI 2 weeks back after reading lots of reviews at mouthshut and thought it was my turn to contribute.

First about my purchase- I was looking to buy my first car with a budget of close to 5 lakhs and considered options like Swift, Dzire, A-star, wagonR, Indigo CS, Santro and i10. I took test drives of all of them and to be honest Swift was awesome and so was i10, but then I went to Tata showroom (Dhingra motors) in Gurgaon. My first impression about the car- its a cute car with lots of boot space and ’tashan’ of C-segment. New headlamps , chrome sidelining and beige interiors give car some handome points. Though the pick up of diesel version was pathetically slow after driving Swift and i10 , but may be that was because of my tendency of shifting gears early as I was habitual of driving petrol cars.

The Selection - After lots of discussion I bolied down to Swift and Indigo CS and finally chose Indigo CS for its fuel efficiency and separate boot. When I asked about discount I was told that not a rupee would be reduced from the price as they were throwing in Insurance free dur to 20-20 offer. Then I visited other showroom of Tata’s (ABS motors) and told them I’ll buy from them if they offer some discount. They agreed for provising matting free of cost. This when told to Dhingra motors , they offered a discount of 1.5k (over and above free insurance) and mattings. So I started loan process @Dhingras. When ABS learned this, they increaed the discount to 3.8k with matting and teflon coating as a freebie. So finally the purchase was made @ABS motors. Staff was courtious and the processing was done as expected.

The Car-This car is truly worth its money. I always had a sense of respect towards Tata’s and when I see them giving such a wonderful car at affordable prices I have started admiring them further. Interiors are spacious, 3 people can easily accomodate on the back seat. I am a tall man but still I donot find my knees graping for space on the font seat. I miss the cup holders near front seats. Seats are comfortable and lining is good. Beige interios provide classy looks. Though the engine makes lot of noise from outside and its an embrassement if you are standing outside but cabin is silent with windows up. AC is powerful even in Gurgaon summers. Pick though slow but once the RPM touches 2000-2200 you can definetly feel the punch. Till dte I have driven 1350 KM’s and car gives fuel economy of 15 kms in Gurgaon traffic and 17 on NH8 (NH-8 drive is not free of clutch and brakes). I donot lke the gear knob especially when I have driven i10 and swift but I guess its okay for the money that you pay.

I have put on a keyless entry system from Black CAT for INR 2200 (3 yr warranty) and a gear lock for INR 800 (5 year warranty). Music system headunit is JVC, from speakers of 4 inches from JVC and 6 inch JBL at rear. All these electronis stuff with a warranty of 2 years. So complete car for me has costed 4.76 lakhs and only seat covers are left to be added to this.

All in all, a BIG and SPACIOUS sedan for a Hatchbacks price. It may not have what top end hathcbacks may give but its still more value for money in my views.
