A good fuel efficient family car - THUMBS UP!!

A good buy for an entry level. Much sup as compared to Logan in features & cost. Good looks - ref new model. Sturdy one apt for indian roads. Spacious to accomodate entire family. Roomy interiors that don’t leave you with a cramped feeling.

Yes a bit noisy at the time of first start in the morning but subsequent ones are smooth. As a matter of fact most of the diesels make some noise. But thanks to good sound proofing in the cabin, you have a silent ride.

With present discounts offered by Tata, its a good buy at that value. A word of caution: if you are contemplating to buy DICOR, pls do look at the TDi one as well. Personally I found TDi more a value for money than DICOR. The extra money that you pay doesn’t give any extra advantge in milage or comfort or noise! Have a test ride of both and you’ll know what I am saying.

Had a good experience with the dealer both pre sales and post sales. A bit too early to talk about milage since its only 400 kms in last 4 days. In nutshell a good buy at this price!

*Update:

*Its been about over 850 kms in last 2 weeks of actual run. I am happy with the performance so far. Milage with AC seems to be around 12 kms. Must note that the AC is very powerful. Cools up the car nicely at minimum level. Without AC it is around 14kms. Waiting for 1st service @ 1000 kms. Dealer experience is good so far. Quickly set right the starting noise that I mentioned in my earlier post.

*Update:

*1st service done. More than 1900 kms now. Avg with AC in city around 11km/L and without AC around 14-15 in city. Noiseless smooth car. Had to change the starter belt. Got it done in warranty.

Last week I drove on Mumbai Nasik highway for about 500 kms. Since the climate was pleasant there was no need for AC. It returned an incredible 21 km/L even on that not so good road. I am looking forward to take it on Mumbai Pune Express way. Shall update then.

*Update(19th Nov 2007)

*My experience is very good. Its been 7000 kms and I have had no such problems as reported by others. Milage good around 15 km/l without AC. And around 11 kmpl with AC - both in city traffic conditions.(The workshop told me that this variation is normal) Highway got 22+ without AC.

Slight noise while 1st start in the morning. But no probs later. Service experience has been good so far. In all very sturdy family vehicle. I am happy with the space and overall package

*Update(15 Mar 2008)

*Its been almost 14000 kms now. I have had long trips that stretch over 250 kms one way. Very sturdy and fuel efficient car I must say! Have got around 18 km/l with AC on highways. Without AC a good 21 km/l.

Had small problems like morning noise, Rear door alignment, engine temperater censor replacement. Thanks to efficient service, had no difficulties in getting a quick solution! May be you will call me lucky, but my experience with Tata service in Mumbai, Thane has been good. What I love about TDI is its pickup post 2000 rpm and very smooth, noiseless functioning.

*Update(8 July 2008)

*I am writing this update on the first’birthday’ of my car. Its 1 year today. In’km’ terms, it is more than 20000. Driven practically across locations in Mah & Guj - on challenging as well as smooth roads. Good experience(mentioned above) continues.

Pickup slows down with AC in lower gears. However not much of impact in higher gears and and above 2000 RPMs. Let me reiterate: This car is not for’pick up lovers’ who would like to flare up on start. This is a fuel efficient spacious family car - a good combination that beats even petrol cars fitted with CNG. Especially after recent hike putting CNG at Rs. 36 in Mumbai;)

*Update:(9 Mar 09)

The meter shows 27000 kms now! Driven it to different locations ghats, highways. Had 2 services done. Must say I am amazed by 2 features - Space inside and Milage. **Making long drive a great experience. At 100 km/hr I got about 19kmpl with AC on Mumbai - Pune expressway. Very stable. Don’t get a feeling of being cramped. Would recommend it for the first time buyer who needs to balance fuel economy and space.

*Update(18 Jun 09) - Probably the final - would like to write back maybe @ 50000 kms!

Last week I did my final’free’ service for 30000 kms. Cost of service was around Rs. 3000. The car is nearing second birthday and running smooth as expected. Milage with AC is about 18-19 and without AC is 20-21. Recently drove on Mumbai Pune entire expressway 160 kms @65-70 kmph speed(deliberately & without AC). Was amazed to get a milage of 23kmpl. Hats off to the fuel efficient family car.

Thanks for reading:)*
