35000km blues

Facts: (driven single-handedly)

  1. Still not a rupee spent other than regular maintenance (i.e. oil /filter changes, fluid top-ups, wheel alignments and balancing etc.)

  2. Driven on all sorts of roads (concrete/tar, highways, intra-city, dirt, mud, stones etc.), This has not majorly altered the behavior of the car (no rattling, losing fit-and-finish, or any new suspension / mechanical noises)

  3. The car still faithfully delivers 17kmpl on regular diesel, in mixed city/highway driving, with AC on for ~75% of the time. (The Indigo LX still does a Pune-Mumbai trip on exactly a quarter tank)

  4. The power steering, however, generates a small ’’knocking’’ type of sound, the frequency of which has increased during my 20 months of driving this car. (though the power steering fluid, is ensured of recommended quality and always topped-up)

  5. The AC is still quite cold, without any need for freon change.

  6. The car, if maintained with proper coolant ratio, never gets hot much more than half the level shown in the temperature dial. This is true in 40 degC driving conditions on concrete, climbing ghats, moving through slow traffic, et al.

  7. Contrary to expectations, gear shifting is not as smooth as before. The gear-box doesn’t appear as ’’clean’’ as that of a Ford Ikon, for example.

  8. No reduction in turbo power (pick-up and pulling power same as that of a new car). If maintaining a good speed-to-gear ratio, the turbo is extremely loyal...!

  9. The suspension has softened a bit, may need attention after ~10000 kms more.

  10. I don’t feel the need to buy a new car for another 25000kms at least..!!
