I purchased Tata Indigo Manza Qjet90 (Aura ABS) on Oct. 8, 2010. Within 20 days of my purchasing the car, its horns were replaced by M/s Grover Motors, Bareilly on Ist service itself. However, things were not so smooth as they sound. *de facto*, the mechanic attending the car brought some local brand of horns and before I could understand anything, peeled off the wires attached to the socket connecting the original horns (since the new local horns were not having the same pin types as the original ones). When objected to peeling of the the wires, the mechanic gave me a stern look and **obliged** me by replacing the horns with the original ones. I had to mention the whole story on all the service related documents for, any lapse on my part would have given the Tatas a reason to void the warranty of the car as per their warranty terms since they had themselves peeled off the wires of the socket.
I purchased a 3 lit can of Synthetic Engine Oil (sealed original one) of one of the brands as mentioned in the service manual, from the market for about 3000/- . The Tatas (M/s Grover Motors as well as Bareilly Car Scanners) refused to accept the oil on the grounds that they do not **use** the oil purchased by the customer himself from the market. I was forced to shell out over Rs. 4300/- for the same oil as I was curtly told that In case, the oil from market is used (so what if it is the same brand recommended by Tatas) the warranty will be void. I filed a complaint with the Tatas in this regard but to no avail. My complaint was simply passed on to M/s Grover Motors, Bareilly who did nothing in the matter.
Having realized that the horns of the car were again not sounding proper, this time I tried my luck with M/s Bareilly Car Scanners, Bareilly, the second Authorized Service Centre of Tata Motors. It was confirmed that the horns had once again developed defects. Since the socket type horns were out of stock on that day, I was told to visit again after few days. After about 15 days, I was delighted to know that the horns were available with the service centre. So I again visited them only to be told that both the horns were of the same type (that is high tone type) instead of one being of low and the other of high tone type and hence cant be replaced (under warranty) The fault was traced back to the first service at the Grover Motors. They had replaced the original pair of horns with the same (high tone) type of horns. For none of my faults, I was denied warranty cover on flimsy grounds. In fact, the personnel at the service centre, (especially Mr. Mudit Agarwal) were so skeptical and hesitant in extending the warranty benefits that they scrutinized my service booklet atleast 10 times as if they were looking for some grounds to reject my warranty claim. And they indeed succeeded in finding one such pretext as I have already mentioned.
The squealing sound emanating from the *belts* refuses to go. The Tata service personnels at both the service centres (M/s Grover Motors as well as M/s Bareilly Car Scanner, Bareilly) in Bareilly failed to fix the problem. Now I have no option but to accept it as such as the **trade mark or a unique feature** of Tata cars which hardly any other cars have,
My car has done little over 17000 km in about 2 years. I had also purchased two years extended warranty cover at the time of purchasing the car. However, going by my experience with Tatas, I am not very sure, if I will be provided with any warranty benefits, if God forbid, my car develops any major defects during the course of extended warranty. Ironically, M/s Bareilly Car Scanners, Bareilly have already declined to provide extended warranty cover to my car. Are Tatas listening? Why was I charged an hefty amount for the extended warranty coverage of my car if your service centres fail to provide it? In nut shell, I can conclude that my experience with Tatas has been quite frustrating.
I also own a Chevrolet Spark (LT) which is driven by my wife. However, I can say that Chevrolet people are a lot better than Tatas, in my opinion. So choose wisely..., in case you are going to bye a new car. It is not entirely unwise to shell out bit extra for a multinational brand. Do read reviews on sites like mouthshut.com before taking a final plunge.
Wish you luck....
