Just below the perfection

I am a Manza Safire90 Aura User for last couple of years now after a Maruti and a Santro.

Manza petrol is a great family car in the budget segment. I say’budget segment’ for it is placed in a class well above its price.

Almost everything including Space, trunk size, theater dimming ambiance, AC, Interior and exterior Design, riding comfort, Power steering, audio & blue-tooth is just perfect. I say’almost perfect’ for some small glitches in finish of the plastic parts, not-very-easy clutch, harder gearshift etc.

It is a very well known fact that the window control switches were designed and manufactured to an inferior quality and I had to replace them all one-by-one during the first year. But they were under warranty, you know!;)

The 1400CC engine is not very powerful for the heavy sedan but can still clock 120 kmph easily with a fully laden car. Sometimes I hear a harsh knock-like sound but it is not knocking because it appears when I release the accelerator from a high RPM level and speed. I have to look at that in the next service.I wonder all the other users also experience this engine sound.

I hope TATAs have rectified the faulty design of the switches  and upgraded the plastic finish by now.

The mileage is not great(10-12 kmpl) but that is for the weird city traffic, half-clutch driving and gear shift. On the highways, I get 14 to 16 kmpl. That’s OK.

TATA service has been OK. My car developed a strange problem in between, which was not mentioned in any of their service/training manuals. One of the spark plug feeder wires got a small, invisible puncture and the spark was flying from the wire to engine body bypassing the spark plug and resulting in an unburned cylinder.  error status indicator was flashing for lambda sensor malfunction intermittently. After repeated attempts, TATA fellows found out the problem. Thanks to them for that. This problem was indeed undetectable by conventional means.

Overall, a good car - But given the souring Petrol prices, the Tata Indigo Manza Quadrajet Diesel option may be better for some. I am not one of them though;) I have my own principles to establish.:):)
