Folks, I have completed 46000+ on this car and read just opposite what I have mentioned in this review. I wrote this after completing 2K and afterthat slowly slowly I got to know the real quality of Tata’s product. Spending 4 years with this car have tested my patience like anything and I dont recommend Tata’s car to anyone. If you want peaceful life....just look other option and if looking for indian product only then you have maruti and mahindra

I bought TATA INDIGO GSX...a Luxury Product from TATA. After canceling my booking for swift(waited two months), I was looking for other car in the same price band. Getz & indigo was the other last two options for me. I dont believe in Hyundai products as this company is cheap in marketing tactics and products dies after two years. I mean to say Hyundai products are costly to maintain after two years. This feedback I got from finance ppl who gave me car loan. Ford...? a big NO...very very costly to maintain. but if you want FUN then go for it. Well, lets start my story with Indigo GSX –
Updated on Nov, 2005- I have completed 2000 km on it. This car lacks power & refinement. Transmission is really bad and its not good for city driving. I will not recommend this car for personel uses. Its a pathetic product from TATA. The only good thing is service from TATA.
Why I bought petrol ? Well I like performance, speed, pickup and most imp user-friendly drive, smooth drive and low maintenance. Mileage is ok with petrol version and you can achieve 12-13 with this rather you use speed, power, extra mile only. Well, when I saw this model first time I liked it as this color appeals. 12 spoke alloy wheels and side skirts gives it a pleasing look. I wont say its sporty but overall its nice design. Chrome line on Side body moulding you will see on higher car segment like Accord, Corrola etc. But there is no big difference in design pattern with GSX/SX model, same old indigo pattern. TATA must think over it...as we are getting bored with this. Lets talk abt good & bad with this – I am novice to car and I put my point as a user not an expert. If I am wrong somewhere please advise me. Please Rate & put your valuable comment on it.
Good about GSX –
A “Value for Money” tag on TATA car is right here. They charged whopping 75K more for Leather Seats, Kenwood VCD Player, Nippon 5” LCD screen (TWO) with 4 speakers, Driver seat Height adjuster, Electric Mirrors, Center arm rest, beige interiors, side skirt(gives sport looks), front fog lamps, new red color.
Very specious and comfortable. Any kinda pothole you can pass with a breeze. Suspension is excellent and ride comfort is above average. Better then swift, getz, ford, accent and even City. better you check your own.
Steering control is light in city but I want it to be bit tight while speeding. But, I haven’t crossed 60Kmpl speed mark so can’t say about it. But its works excellent till this speed. Will update my review later. Anyway.... handling depends upon – Suspension and tires also. So, if they are on good side you will get quality ride, comfort and handling.
I opt for Tubeless and got Goodyear GPS2 as stock tires. So far I am satisfied with cornering and smooth ride quality. Tire noise is very less and dont irritate you.
Kenwood Music System (KDC-MP4026V ) is excellent in sound production and came up with nice combination on 4 Kenwood (rear 120 watt, front 45 watt) speakers and two LCD screens. I will put a detailed review later on car player section. You can play WMA, Mp3 CD (original & others) but it requires original VCD to play. I would suggest you to go with good quality CDs only. Performance is nice, I am happy.
Leather upholstery is very nice to see and very much comfortable. Feel of leather on steering wheel and gear knob gives good grip.
A/C is superb and within 2-3 minutes it will chill your cabin. The trick is to on A/c and use cabin air to chill out fast. Later you can switch to fresh air or cabin air. Don’t know abt heater performance as winter is far :-)
Looks are the best, after swift I like this one only...as it fits to my budget and requirements. If I have to get 12-14 Kmpl from swift, getz then why not to go for indigo which gives the same. Yes, choose speed, power or Indian oil extra mile one only. These cars are Euro-III model & it is recommend using high-octane petrol. Why I haven’t chosen diesel? This I will explain in petrol vs. diesel section. In short, if you love smooth drive and easy to maintain car...go for petrol.
Refinement is done on this machine. Engine noise is very very less while starting and initial pick up is very good. Sometime it create problem for me as I am new to drive. Anyway I will learn to ride on this horse.
Interiors & finish is real luxury and wooden dashboard would have put 5 stars in this car but still you will like the finishing. But I wont give 100/100 marks to TATA on finish part they are just 80/100. You feel proud, when your friend says WOW nice car.... and other TATA car owners do tail getting and give you smile.
BAD about GSX-
Gearshift is not very smooth. It could be a little bit smooth but not very much. too much smoothness cause problem while shifting from 5 to 3 and then to one. many times I missed it on esteem (while learning).
Light is OK not very powerful. For that you need to turn on Fog Lamps then you have good visibility. Perhaps its bcos of the film I put on the windshield. I will go & upgrade it with higher wattage lamp.
If you are 5 ppl sitting in the car & A/c is on then there is significant drop in performance. Perhaps this will be over after first service.
You can’t tilt LCD screens thus you need to adjust brightness & contrast if front seat passenger adjusts his seat.
You can’t see the end of your bonnet so it is tough for new user to get adjust with it. But in last it will give you safe ride as you wont go so close to other vehicle.
This GSX/SX doesn’t come with tubeless tyre so ask dealer to upgrade it with that. 15” alloy wheels would be nice upgrade as it will give more ground
clearance and good ride over potholes. Yes a nice look also :-)
Though Kenwood Music system is good but I was expecting it to 5.1 speaker system. :-) Anyway, four speakers are good enough & still 2 more speakers you can add in the front door.
Door handle is body color but chrome finish would be nice one with finger guard. I will do that in my car.
I am not getting good mileage right now 7-8 kmpl but this could be due to my driving skill as I am not good in gear shifting and sometime I rev too much. Anyway, I am going to wait till first service then only I will get to know the exact figure.
Why no ABS, EBD or EPS with this luxury sedan? No airbags also but in europe they sell it with all goodies. TATA ppl plz clarify me with this.
All electrical connection and every other aspect must go with quality control, as few buttons are not working in my car. I got to know this after my testing with car. By professional I m QA LOL!
:- Overall, this is a excellent car in 5-6 L price band and if you are tired with wait period and flase promise from others...come to old, loyal, trusty hand of TATA.
