Hi,
Since I joined Mouthsut and read reviews of all the users I was sure that I will write a review from my experience so that everyone can be benefited from this.
I was looking to buy a car for the first time and from the user rating and reviews I was all set for Santro Xing. But due to delays in delivery and the Dealer a freind of mine suggested me to just have a look at Tata Indigo. I was not willing to go for this car because of its Indica like looks and I was not interested as well in a mid segment car due to cost factor. But once I had a ride I forgot everything and suddenly I was looking to buy a C Segment car.
I had a test ride of Ikon, Accent, Honda City, Esteem and Toyota before making the final decision. I discarded the above cars for the following reasons:-
IKON- A beauty to drive and handle on road. Drives as a knife thru butter, but waer and tear cost was very high and secondly it was less spacious then any other car in this segment.
Accent - Koren Car, with good technology but not good at this price. You should better go for a Honda City rather than Accent. Interiors are not too good and the suspensions are also not comfortable.
Honda and Toyota - Pretty solid cars but very expensive. I had to pay almost 2.5 Lac extra to have them.
Esteem - Solid performer but poor at looks and comfort. The new styling is just a touch up. They need to improve it a lot.
Indigo -
Most powerful of all 1.4 L in comparison to Honda, Accent, Ikon and Esteem all 1.3 L higher versions also available.
Cheapest of all 5.07 Lac On Raod Jaipur with 18 months extended warranty fully loaded.
Very Powerfull A/c with chilling effect in 10 minutes in Rajasthans heat.
More leg Space then any other car in both fron and rear.
More ground clearance then any other car to avoid silly brakers on the india roads.
Biggest boot space except Honda City.
Cheap spare parts with easy availability as the engine is a refined one from Indica.
Exceptionally good suspension (3 Link in rear) to give you a bump free ride over the worst of the bump and in India we find them easily.
Solid built ensuring maximum security in a crash.
the trust and reliability the manufacturer carries TATA.
There are some disadvantages also, like:-
Poor A/C Controls.
Engine needs refinement as it makes noise when you are in lower gear in slow speeds and when you are doing in excess to 130 KMPH.
Braking on high speeds is not as comfortable as IKON and Honda City have.
So far I have done 15000 KMs in 6 months. I have achieved a speed of 140 KMPH to see how fast I can go on Jaipur-Delhi highway with ease. Only engine starts making noise at speeds higher then 120 KMPH. I am getting fuel economy of 11 in City with A/C on and 16 -17 on highway with A/C on and I usually drive it above 100 as it seems you are doing 70 on Maruti 800 on higways.
You should get a better pair of tyres before getting this on to raod as they make noise while driving. Use goodyear to have the best perfromance. The cabin is extremely quite. In all this is one the best buy for those who are looking for a mid segment car with lots of features and fun in least price with minimum wear and tear.
I have not visited to dealer except the servicing part.
